Nashville Predators reportedly close to signing defenseman Victor Bartley
According to a report in Sweden's Aftonbladet (run it through your favorite translator), the Nashville Predators are close to signing defenseman Victor Bartley to a contract. Reading Expressen's article on the subject, the speculation is that he'll get a two year deal. Bartley had a strong season for Rögle in Sweden's second division, and was expected to play for Djurgården in the Elite League this fall before this change of plans:
The idea was that he would show up in June. We'll see. Is it that he is ready for the NHL, it's obviously fun for him, but sad for us. - Djurgården head coach Thomas Montén (as translated)
Bartley went undrafted by an NHL team despite some strong play for Kamloops in the WHL (see his HockeyDB.com page), and was described by Hockey's Future back in 2007 as follows:
A pivotal contributor to the strong backend in Kamloops this season, Bartley has maintained the same high level of intensity he brought to the ice during his draft year... He brings leadership and poise to the Blazers and has been a steadying influence for young prospects...
Now 23 years of age, Bartley may be a bit of a late bloomer who can add some depth in Milwaukee. If indeed he signs soon, perhaps we'll get our first look at him during the Preds' development camp in late June. If not then (he's a little old compared to most of the guys in that camp), it'll be training camp in September.

Hoping these Dmen signings lead to a trade for offense...........
My wishful side is thinking that we’re adding these Dmen in anticipation for the big trade for a quality firward. My cynical side is saying that Poile is obsessing on Dmen once again. Hope the wishful side wins out here! :)
That would be "forward" of course.
Where’s that edit button when you need it!
I like a two-year deal.
SteffeG compared Bartley’s playing style to Tobias Enstrom due to his strong skating skills and aggressive two-way play. I think he’s likely going to be given the opportunity to compete for an NHL spot at camp, but will be ticketed for Milwaukee.
Bartley is known for being a very strong leader in the locker room. With Palin, Johnson, and Ford all FA’s this summer and Laakso likely competing for a spot in Nashville to start next year…Bartley might be looked upon to add offense to the Ads and serve as a mentor for some of our younger prospects that will be beginning their pro careers next season with Milwaukee.

Either that or stocking up the back-end in case we trade Klein, Franson ,or someone for that big forward.
"My, my, here's one for the (no) neck. Don't relax, 'cause you're next for the check!"
or stocking up in case Trotz decides our forwards are useless and wants to play 5 D on the ice at all times

You can never have enough D…….even during every shift of a game. :D
We’re proof that you can have enough D when you never trade any of it for O.
