Nashville Predators sign Brodie Dupont
Well, my apologies for that "one RFA left" headline I posted a few minutes ago! This, from the Preds:
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed restricted free agent forward Brodie Dupont to a one-year, two-way contract worth $550,000 at the NHL level and $80,000 at the AHL level.
Dupont, 24 (2/17/87), was acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers on Saturday. He ranked third on the Connecticut Whale in points (14g-31a-45pts) and assists and second in power-play goals (9) in 2010-11. The Russell, Man., native made his NHL debut with the Rangers last season, appearing in a 3-2 victory over Atlanta on Jan. 22, 2011. In 297 American Hockey League games since 2007-08, Dupont has 148 points (58g-90a) and 389 penalty minutes.
A third-round selection (66th overall) of the New York Rangers in the 2005 Entry Draft, the 6-2, 210-pound left wing played 214 career games with the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen from 2003-07, registering 149 points (81g-68a) along with 324 penalty minutes.
Expect Brodie to play in Milwaukee, although I wouldn't be surprised if he spent some time with Cincinnati, as well. Brodie came over to the Preds in last week's trade for Andreas Thurreson.

He sounds like the evil rich kid in pretty much every John Hughes movie.

There should be a little box on the upper right hand corner where insignificant signings like this can be reported………shame to use a full blog up for this. :D

60% of the time it works every time
I don't care what anyone thinks...
I want to see him in Milwaukee. He’s a big kid that parks in front of the net, can score as much as Thresson did, and hits like a truck.
I'd be very surprised if...
Dupont spent any time in Cincinnati. He was signed to play as a veteran in Milwaukee and possibly provide NHL depth if need be.
It’s another change of scenery type of deal. Thuresson had maxed out his potential here and needed to move on to move forward. Same with Dupont in New York. Dupont has played on some great lines in his career at different levels and I think has a good chance at taking the next step with the Ads this season and possibly cracking the NHL roster at some point.

As a matter of fact...
As Aaron Sims pointed out in his blog last week, the Thuresson for Dupont deal has been in the works for awhile now almost happening around midseason last year…

It’s just not the big boom many of us have been waiting for. :)

I'm aware, but...
A successful organization needs depth too…
I honestly believe that Poile is working on acquiring a legitimate proven top-6 forward via trade. For the sake of our fan base’s sanity, I hope it is sooner rather than later. However at the same time it needs to be the right guy and the right deal, so patience is necessary.

We’ve got bottom six forward depth in spades, no worries about that! :D
I sure hope you’re right about Poile working to make a deal……….would appreciate if you could tap his phone just to be sure. :D

You're right
I must’ve been thinking of someone else when I wrote that, for some reason I thought he split time between the AHL and ECHL last season. My mistake!

Just testing..........
To see if I can post from the main site from a mobile device……….looks like I can!
Trotz says "we don't need more offense" and Poile "likes where we are right now". We're doomed!!!
