Former Canucks tough guy Rick Rypien dead at 27.
Not fond of the guy, but what's with tough guys dying lately?
Known for: Beating a Wild fan and getting a 6-game suspension.

Still sucks for family/friends though.

Known for beating a Wild fan?
Seriously?

Are you saying he wasn’t? It might been a little snarky, but it is what he’s known for mostly outside of Vancouver.
Lunging towards a fan is not a beating. If you choose to remember him for that, have at it, but at least get the story straight. I’ve noticed on several other SBN sites that aren’t even in the Western conference that they made no mention that being the lone thing he’s remembered for.

I’m thankful that you put this up, DonBorvio, because this story is really bothering me today. I hate for anyone to feel so hopeless as to take their own life, if that is what happened (unverified as of this posting). I hate that a sport that I love and that Rypien himself loved could have been a catalyst for such despondency, whether through concussions or through the mental toll that being expected to fight may cause a player.
My prayers go out to his family today and to all of those dealing with mental illness, in whatever walk of life they may be. I am thankful that Jordin Tootoo got some help last year, and I pray that God will grant him the strength to continue his struggle against his demons.
The hockey community has a clear opportunity to address mental health issues, both for the players and in the community at large. May we have the fortitude to tackle this issue and seize this moment before the deaths of Rypien and Boogard fade from public view. Amen.
