20 minutes on a bike is a far cry from being able to play hockey, but this is encouraging news on Matthew Lombardi's recovery from the concussion he suffered in Game 2 of last season.

All the best to him. I hope they’re cautious not to push too fast.

What round pick did we get if he played how many games this year?

Hope Lombardi the best, really wished we had gotten the chance to really see him in action. I’m not too optimistic about this bike ride either, though.

Gonna miss you Joel Ward...

Go Predmirals!

4th I think

And I believe we get your 4th if he doesn’t play enough.

Crazy would be NOT overanalyzing everything.

Is it bad luck or something else at play here?

Hard to believe just a month or so ago that it appeared Lombardi was in no way going to play anytime soon and now, valla, he can ride a bike symptom free. If he plays opening night for the Leafs, Poile will resemble a guy who just got his wallet (Lombardi) and his watch (Franson) stolen from him. And our return for them? Brett Lebda’s buyout. Sure hope we put all that savings to good use……..soon!

Well now, hold on there. According to the article, he still hasn’t skated and is just now getting cleared for “full activity on the bike.” The prognosis is still very uncertain. He has a long way to go to get from stationary bike to playing in the NHL. And it’s not just whether he can play on opening day. It’s whether he can play a whole season and still be productive. This could be either spin or false hope.

From a human standpoint, I want only the best for him. I don’t know that I’d bank on it based on this report.

I tend to doubt he’ll be ready to play by opening day, but even by mid-October would seem like a very speedy recovery from where he was apparently at a month or so ago. But I too hope he gets back to 100%.

That we haven’t used the money we saved by trading both he and Franson is the more angering part of all this.

You mean the money we were promised? We’re saving that. Poile needs to be able to sleep well at night knowing it’s all locked up tight in the vault.

Exactly!

I am soooo perturbed by this fact! Everybody was thinking ‘Oh, i guess we will finally get a top forward or 2 for Weber!’ But nothing! I KNEW this would be a headline before preseason. We got JACK SHIT for two potential all stars! Makes NO sense!

And to further that depressing feeling.......

the Coyotes, yes, the league owned Coyotes, have a higher payroll than we do right now. So much for all that “higher payroll than last season” talk, eh? :/

I’m willing to bet we’re not this low on the payroll come puck drop (on the regular season).

that’s probably too late for some people.

Yes, it’s the bad fans who think that. Darn them for being passionate and wanting to have an improved team!

Now worries, someday they’ll become sober, level headed folks not given to outlandish demands like wanting better than bottom 3rd in league scoring.

Really?

Please tell me you aren’t reading all of that into what i said? bc i never said any of it.

if you think all that, than my apologies. I just don’t want people putting words into my mouth.

C’mon, together we will defeat these impatient “fans” and break their bands asunder! It’s what GMDP would want. ;)

$100.

I’ll do it too. The catch is this includes if DP picks up another $500k scrub.

by DonBorvio on Aug 31, 2011 12:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Like another Sloan or Hillen? Nah, needs to be an actual top 6 forward (they really do exist!). :)

I would be glad if there were improvements between now and October, and I certainly won’t rule it out, but I don’t want to get mu hopes up, either.

Besides, Poile could add Ellis and another prospect and increase the payroll. That doesn’t mean we’re actually making roster changes.

For some reason, CapGeek added Josi and Laakso to our NHL cap hit, which is a combined 1.6M. Even with that, which gives us 8 Dmen on the roster though we’ll only carry 7 at the most, we’re still under last seasons payroll. It all seems like a charade at the moment………

Hey, remember when the team said that they have all the offensive tools they need? It was after they talked about bringing a top six forward on board and before Preds fans collectively slapped their foreheads.

Except this would be the equivalent on Polie doing the following:
All the cars on this lot are lemons, absolutely terrible, except this car is will get you where you’re going. Well, unless you care about getting their alive.

The nightmare continues

I wish the season would start, cause the off season is not where the Preds shine.

As a side note, I wish the NHL would finally get serious about concussions. I cringe every time I hear about a player suffering a concussion. The only way to protect the game and its players is no-tolerance policy toward hits to the head. I love the physical play just as much as anyone else (I grew up a Flyers’ fan, afterall), but if a no-tolerance policy will keep the stars on the ice where they belong, then I’m all for it.

They seem to apply that rule very well in the Olympics, you do wonder why they can’t do so in the NHL.

If only we were still allowed to do so. We could have a fan contest of which player gets bought out next! Heck, who needs new players when you can tell the one’s you’ve got to get lost! (Sarcasm intended to bring levity to this off-season). :)
