This afternoon's hockey notes touch on a variety of topics; yet another big young star signs a long-term contract extension with his team, the NHL's ageless wonder returns for another season of sniping, and two mainstream media outlets preview the Nashville Predators' upcoming system.
All that, and a whole lot more after the jump!

30 Teams In 30 Days: Nashville Predators - TSN
TSN's Nashville installment of this series covers all the bases, and raises what is to me the real question heading into this season - "If the team is unable to be amongst the NHL's stingiest defences, will they be able to overcome their lack of fire-power?"
Cullen: Predators have D, search for scoring - TSN
From a fantasy hockey perspective, the pickings are few in Nashville. Pekka Rinne and Shea Weber are studs, but after that it really drops off.
Smashville 24/7: Training Camp battle at forward has intrigue
Do we have a logjam of youngsters leading to wide-open competition, or a lack of proven talent at too many positions? I suppose it's all in one's perspective.
Nashville could get another Arena Football team by 2013 - The Tennessean
Preds COO Sean Henry talked up the idea of bringing arena football back here to help fill Bridgestone Arena during the summer months. How long before NewsChannel5 comes out with a report alleging some kind of misconduct or shady business?

Tyler Myers inks 7-year deal; big changes for Sabres in 2012? - Puck Daddy
As part of contract extension which averages $5.5 million per year, Myers will rake in $12 million(!) in 2012-13. Terry Pegula is just spewing wads of cash this year, considering the $10 million going to Kristian Ehrhoff this season.

I bumped into Jarred Smithson in Cool Springs today. Basically I thanked him for the Game 5 OT goal (perhaps the most clutch goal in Preds history) to put us up 3-2. Then I wished him good luck. Hockey is in the air people! I can’t wait!

His post game press conference was classic...
Crispy: Tell us what happened out there Smitty.
Smithers: I don’t know, I think I blacked out.
I GOT MY TICKETS, TODAY !!!!!
Cool weather is here………full training camp and pre-season, in a few days…..
Hockey in SMASHVILLE is back !!
Is it just me...
…or are there a lot of Preds sympathizers in Chicago? Seems like any mixed message board I run across has BH fans saying good things about us, although it is usually to put down other teams. I think they like us like China liked North Korea in the 60s….
We'll miss you Belak...
Go Predators!
not just you
i’ve noticed the same thing as well. i think alot of it was because they wanted us to beat Vancouver though…
On SCH, most posters have a healthy respect for the Preds
We all have fresh memories of that tough playoff series in 2010. Me personally, I enjoy the rivalry and, against most any team other than the Hawks, would root for Nashville in the playoffs. I think a lot of it is that the team, and fanbase, lacks any kind of annoying or pretentious behavior, in addition to the hard working underdog role the team plays.
TEEMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!
WHY?!?!?!?!?!
How many goals will he have against the Preds this? 47?
"Get to the Choppa!"
I got an email from Michael Landsberg last night
that included the following: “Wade loved Nashville. He told me it was his all time favorite place.”
I’m not starting anything here. I just thought you guys might like to know.
R.I.P. Belak, Rypien, Boogaard, Lokomotiv.
Part Predator, part Lightning.
