Love, love love, love
the idea of reverting to the "playing your way out of the division format in the first round or two is the one thing that I really want out of realignment. Especially if the league is divided into 4 divisions…
Ugh no.
Having to play the same team every year doe not sound like fun. Ask Winnipeg how they liked it.

Winnipeg won’t be affected by any playoff realignment.

As much as I hate to say this for the fans that paid to go to the game in Baltimore...
it should have been canceled. If the arena staff can’t do any better job of having safe ice for the players and officials, it’s not worth the risk of losing ANY player especially a Weber, Ovi, etc to a potential year long or God forbid career ending injury for a meaningless game. Let the Baltimore arena staff get the wrath from the fans giving them refunds. This game was just not worth the very dangerous conditions they were asked, or demanded to play on. This isn’t whinning folks, it’s the reality of an entire teams season changing due to potential injury(s) because the ice was no better than playing on the street after an ice storm.

As a result, there will be no live streaming available through GameCenter Live in the US, however you will be able to watch the replay 48 hours after the end of the live broadcast in the archives.
Yeah Dirk...
as I was telling Predaceous…I just wanted an alliterative title…and I was running on 4 hrs sleep over 3 days…not my proudest work…but I will defend by saying that the last two paragraphs stating I think the combo of Wilson/O’Reilly/Kostitsyn can be a formidable offensive line this year…but after last night…maybe keep Wilson/Mueller/Bergfors together…I may have spoken too soon. ;)

wouldn't it be lovely...
…if Bergfors can play responsibly on the home end of the ice and he sparks C. Wilson to play closer to his potential???

And Radulov comes back from Russia and brings some 1980s Soviet Super Hockey Project that has finally reached playing age with him.
Interesting parallel in last night radio discussion.
Washington went from a offense-first to a defense-first system last year. They did not quite as good in the regular season but got further in the playoffs. But, their power play dropped from the top to 16th last year, with the same coach and most of the same players (specifically offensive talent). I think we face the same thing – Trotz coaches defense-first and the power play will always suffer. But a ~15th-ranked power play with a top-rated PK again might just do it for us.
+1
A top ranked PK and a mid tier PP means you are winning the special teams battle…and we’re already good 5 on 5.

I think the PP is a problem in DC, and a switch in system shouldn’t affect that too much. Caps got one round further last year, but I don’t think anyone was happy, and I think most fans would rather have the run-and-gun team from the year before. This change in style was interesting in that the team certainly listened to the critics and responded with a tighter game, but it wasn’t much fun to watch and perhaps doesn’t suit their roster. They played with a certain joy two years ago. Not last year.
Back to the Preds, I think about Trotz’s comment, maybe from the 2006-07 season, that his team was full of Rembrandts and all he wanted was his house painted. Well, he’s got house painters now. But you need Rembrandts to make the PP go, in my opinion. We don’t have enough guys who can hold the puck in the zone and create offense. Lacking Rembrandts, you just need to simplify big time on the PP, getting pucks and traffic to the net. I think the Preds realize they’re not going to have a top-15 PP. I think they’ll settle for a timely PP that scores at the right moments.
Good points all around.
I like what the Caps did this off-season by adding both Ward and Brouwer to their mix of forwards, gives them a really strong 3rd line, something they lacked last season. That should allow their top guns to play a more up tempo style once again.
As for the Preds, what they need ain’t on their roster at the moment. They indeed need a Rembrandt, or at least someone close to that skill level. IMO, we have a glut of tweeners in camp, guys who really aren’t quite talented enough to be top 6 forwards but lack the grittiness to be effective 3rd liners. If there were a way and desire to move a few of them for a solid piece to our puzzle, that would clear up a lot of issues going forward. I always think players excel best when they go into a season knowing what their role will be on their team. Right now there’s a lot of guesswork as to who will be doing what.

Already missing Franson...
His quick snap shot from the point will be missed. Not sure we should have given him up.
