Monday's notes: Lombardi, Crosby, Perron all making progress
This morning's hockey notes kick off our look around the league with encouraging news for three key forwards who are recovering from post-concussion symptoms. It sounds like Matthew Lombardi, David Perron, and Sidney Crosby are all making tangible progress towards getting back in the lineup for their teams.
We've got that, and a whole lot more, after the jump...

If Your playing against Crosby on an opposing team
Do you play him light? I know I would not want to be the one that gives him another concussion. (Same with Lombardi, and Perron )
Crosby and hopefully the other two guys will only come back when he’s 100% ready. Which means he’s not anymore susceptible to another concussion as any other player. There would be no reason to play him light…and i’m sure he’ll be dealing with physical play as much if not more than usual. The issue is taking the dangerous checks to the head out of the game. Looks like Shanahan is doing just that.
i dont know about that, can you play crosby light and not go like -17. lol

Weirdest link ever: was reading the Tennessean article about our offensive prospects. There’s a link in a quote by Smith about how playing in the NHL is “fun” (fun being the link). I clicked on it, thinking it was a link to a related story. It took me to a site to buy tickets to a horse race (Breeder’s Cup World Championship).
suter watch?
does anyone think if he gets a new contract, he does so early? with several of the kids close to making the jump playing a similar style, it may reduce his cost.
AI hope we get him locked up soon but, I think he would make a fortune on the open market so…who knows? I personally wonder if Weber not signing may have hurt our ability to extend Suter, especially early in the season.
I don’t think anyone in our system plays the “style” that Suter does though, certainly not at his level. Keep in mind that he plays top minutes against the NHL’s best lines on what is widely regarded as the top defensive pair in the league. Many even give him the nod as the more valuable of that pair (myself included)…

Wishful thinking going on here. Suter will have no shortage of teams lining up to offer him big bucks come 07/01/12, so he’s under no pressure at all to sign anything less than for top dollars. He, as well as Weber, hold all the cards. Rinne not as much due to the goalie market being more crowded and many teams not wanting to wrap up to much cash on a goalie.

I still think if 2 of the 3 get signed, Suter is the one that’s not. Weber is captain and still RFA. Worst we could do is sign him to the offer sheet he gets. Rinne will be the cheapest of the three, and the hardest to replace in-system at the moment. Lindback is serviceable, but Rinne is better for our chances to do anything over a whole season.
i know i’ll take heat for this, but take away suter’s power play assists, and you’ll have around the offense of klein. klein doesn’t play pp and isn’t looked to for scoring. klein has mass turnover problems, but he looks better defensivly. he averages over a minute more pk time per game.
i think it was a blog by predlines yesterday speaking of the others in the system similar to suters style.
