Scouting Report
After not signing a contract with the Ducks by June 1 of this year, Valentine became a free agent, and attended Development Camp with the Preds back in July. His offensive numbers roughly doubled in Oshawa compared to his previous season, and his Plus/Minus swung from -31 to +17, so he's hoping to build on that momentum and catch on with the Preds.
Arbitrary nickname we'll give him even though he'd probably hate it
"Cupid" - it slyly fits a player with a pretty nasty physical game. Check out how he steps up to nail an opponent who is engaged with a backchecker, then handles another guy who comes up to challenge him afterward:
What's at stake
Valentine is a guy who has the opportunity to earn a pro contract, but appears more likely (see Seth's comment below, and Valentine's Twitter stream) to return to Oshawa for one more year. As a late-bloomer in junior hockey, he'd like to keep rolling and earn a spot in Milwaukee, but with the competition around him on defense he's going to have to really stand out to bypass others on the depth chart.
