Friday's notes: Mid-game Montreal/Calgary trade has NHL talking
A highly unusual situation arose last night as Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri, who had recently complained through the media about the state of the Habs, was pulled off the ice during last night's game and traded to the Calgary Flames for winger Rene Bourque, a prospect and a draft pick. Does this move signal the official kickoff of the NHL trading season?
Whether or not that's the case, this move has fans in both cities and around the NHL talking about what might end up being a lose-lose deal all around...

Habs deal Cammalleri to Flames: Let the deconstruction begin. - Habs Eyes On The Prize
What an odd, odd trade. Montreal ships a disgruntled player out of town and downgrades their talent level. Yes, they end up shearing about $3 million in cap space on balance and get a 2nd-round pick and a goalie prospect along with Rene Bourque, but I don't see this working out well for Montreal. And does Calgary really think this will get them back in the hunt?

Rene Bourque was trolling his new team? That’s awesome. And hilarious.

The New York Rangers, we’re hearing, are looking for either a top-six forward who can put the puck in the net and/or a power-play defenseman with a good shot. Like most other contenders, including the likes of Philadelphia and Detroit, the Rangers are keeping a close eye on Nashville and what the Predators are going to do with either Suter (UFA July 1) or Shea Weber (RFA July 1). Needless to say, the Rangers would covet either one of those studs on defense.
I just find it amusing that the Rangers, a top 10 team in scoring, is (according to this articke at least) looking for a top 6 forward. I’ll leave it at that.

But that mean
unless they have some great prospects, they won’t be sending us back any offense. Or defense by the looks of it.
Chris Krieder is a terrific forward prospect the Rangers have. The Rangers are a top 10 team in scoring, have good prospects and yet are still looking for more firepower. And us? Only forward prospects who are still a few years off from playing up here and no seeming urgency to obtain a scoring threat. It’s that polar opposite sense of urgency between the two clubs that strikes me.

Saw that and immediately starting thinking about losing one of those guys and getting dubinsky or boyle plus.
What about serving both their wants: erat & suter (though I would rather trade Shea if suter would sign an extension 1st) and a 2nd for dubinsky (or boyle), girardi, stepan and a 3rd?

Poor Pens; that’s what happens when you put all your pucks into one player’s pocket.
"I am you, you are me, and we are all together" Beatles
That one made my day. Hate those guys, always have. (Caps fan, ‘nuff said.) But I wonder what’s going on over there. They played very well without Sid last year, got off to a pretty good start without him this year. It’s a good team without him. Maybe this issue is causing some problems. Looks like Bylsma’s first big test. They certainly need to get Shrek (Malkin) rolling.
It's more than just not having Sid.
Both Staal and Letang are out as well. That’s a trio of high quality players to be without. They beat the Panthers 4-1 tonight, so maybe they’ve righted the ship.

So what you're saying
is they might be up for a Suter for Sid trade? :)
And with our luck, Sid would never play again………at least until we trade him to the Leafs for another buyout victim. :D

So I was thinking last night
What if the Blues and Preds wind up playing each other in the first round of the playoffs? The fans for both teams get pretty heated with each other from what I hear (I have not seen it though). It could be a very nasty series.
We really
haven’t had much of a rivalry with the Blues, even though they are in our division. Kinda odd, but they dropped off just as we were getting good. Now that they are playing good things might change.
Cal cleared waivers.
Guess he’s probably done, unless he’s ok with life in the AHL.
