What Other Sports Teams Do Preds Fans Follow?

I'm working on a little project, and I'm just curious to see what teams Preds fans follow in other sports. More info after the jump...

Star-divide

Are they all local teams like the Titans, Grizzlies, and Braves, or do they vary in region due to moving out of state, family allegiance, or other factors? For instance, I'm a Nashville Predators fan, a Chicago Cubs fan, and a New York Giants fan. Preds from living in Nashville, Cubs from growing up watching them on WGN, and Giants from watching games with my dad. Please let me know who you cheer for, both college and professional teams, and the reasons why. I'd love to see how many different combinations we can get. Thanks!

Cubs fan eh?

I’m a fan of the “Cubs of the NFL”, the Minnesota Vikings.
Also the Twins but more the Diamondbacks lately (I don’t know what the Twins are doing with their team anymore).
I’m not a fan of orange roundball.
I like the Crimson Tide as far as college football is concerned.

Hockey, football, tennis, NASCAR-to some extent, college basketball. Don’t care for pro B-ball or baseball.

Let's see...

I’m loosely a Philadelphia Eagles fan. I’m not much of a football fan, but I’m originally from the area so I tend to support the local teams. Even though the Preds are primary for me, I’m still a strong Flyers fan.
I support Philadelphia Union of the MLS and Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League in the world of soccer. I follow Major League Lacrosse (field lacrosse) and generally cheer for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, but I’m not really devoted to the team since the Philadelphia Barrage folded. I’m not a big box lacrosse fan (even if it is bizarrely more popular) but I do watch the odd Philly Wings game.

That’s about all I can thing of

Grew up in Chicago so

Cubs fan , Bulls fan and Bear fan and they built the Chicago Fire’s stadium right in the middle of my old neighborhood so when I follow soccer, I follow the Fire…Titan fan and all the Vols teams. Switched hockey allegiances after my first Pred game, totally fell in love with this team right from the jump and have never regretted that decision…didn’t even blink when the Hawks won the cup, I was just pissed that we let them off the hook in the first round that year.

by TitanPredBearFan on Jan 24, 2012 9:57 AM EST reply actions

I didn’t say why the Titans and the Vols… I started following the Titans just because I couldn’t see most of the Bears games down here and it was a novelty to see the start of a new football franchise…but now the Titans are my AFC team. The few times the Titans and Bears have gone head to head I find myself waffling about where my heart truly lies.
My parents are originally from Tennessee and my dad ensured we followed no team but the Vols. At that time, not a whole lot of “Southsider” Vol/Cub fans in Chicago, but my family flew those flags with honor and now I proudly continue the tradition down here in Tennessee.

Small market teams all the way

Titans, Preds, San Diego, and Virginia Tech (live in VA). Preds are my best chance to see a championship ever

hockey – Preds only, though my son likes the Maple Leafs (a family member got him a Leafs puck shortly before he died) and my daughter likes whatever team Vokoun dn Bryz play for (currently the Caps and Flyers); Vokoun was long her fav. player before he was traded, and she likes Bryz’s personality.

baseball – Cardinals. Went to grad school in STL; all three of us like the Cards. We go to a few Sounds games each summer, too.

football – Titans and UK (went there for undergrad), though we don’t follow either that closely. In fact, all of us follow the Preds way more closely than any other team.

basketball – again, Univ. of KY, but rarely catch a game.

I devote about 99% my fandom to the Predators, of course, but am glad to oblige your request. Here’s a list, with a bit of the rationale: 1) Professional football—the Titans, because otherwise I’d be shunned in my home town; 2) College football—Vanderbilt, because I’m an alum (and maybe a masochist?), and Boise State because they’re nobodies from nowhere who became somebodies; 3) College basketball—Kansas; I’m from the High Plains and it’s in my blood; 4) Baseball—the Cardinals, because I grew up listening to Harry Caray and later Jack Buck on KMOX St. Louis, and the Dodgers, because their games in Chavez Ravine were summertime sources of enjoyment for most of my 21 years in the Big Avocado. Hope this helps you.

Since you asked>>>>

I really didn’t care for hockey until the Preds came. Now I can’t get enough of it. So Preds first and then the NHL as a whole second. Pro and College football…. Titans and then the NFL as a whole. College Football TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS fan and alum. Plus anybody who is playing Florida or Alabama(two teams I will never ever cheer for stick that Gator Chomp up your ANUS & TO HADES with Alabama!) Just give me the March Madness for the college basketball and the playoffs for the NBA…… Regular season for both is a waste time. Finally, I love Major League Baseball as a whole and the greatest franchise in all of sports. The TWENTY SEVEN TIME WORLD CHAMPION NEW YORK YANKEES!! I’ll make my annual sojourn to NYC, Jun 18-20 to see them destroy the team formerly known as the Boston Braves in interleague play. My fandom changes with season and as the sports change. I credit my love of sports in general to my Granddad(WWII vet) who took his grandkids to many varied sports as we were growing up. We had to cheer for UT in football only but could chose anyone else in any other sport. He often took us to Atlanta to see his favorite pro baseball and football teams…(Dodgers and Cowboys, yep we’d be there cheering for the visiting team) You must remember both the Braves and the Falcons were equally horrible in the late 70s and most of the 80s. Getting a ticket(s) was pretty easy in those days.

Personally, I'm all hockey

Preds—my first (and defining) hockey experiences
Tampa Bay Lightning—b/c of Marty and Vinny (and because that team is pretty much defined by Marty and Vinny)
Finnish National Team—b/c the Finns produce great goalies (and great forwards)

I am forced through family connections into watching handegg every year. I don’t enjoy it, and I am told that I am a supporter of the Cowboys of Dallas.

You know, I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but when you joined yesterday, it asked you who your other favorite teams were. You can click on anyone’s name and all that info will be listed to the right if they filled out the forms, as you did.

And you chose TBL over the Preds! (You know I had to look…)

Actually, I would have expected as much, but I’m not happy about it.

I’m on staff at Raw Charge. About 60% of my hockey time is spent with the Lightning these days. I had to do it. (It’s a relatively recent change, though.)

I'm all hockey all the time.

I’ve watch the Preds religiously since day one.

As of this year, I’ve started watching some Minnesota Wild games. I’ve always kind of liked the Wild for some reason (I have absolutely ZERO affiliation with them in any way), but have never really gotten around to watching them until this year. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the time to devote myself wholly to both teams. That being said, the Wild often takes a back seat to the Preds unless I have some extra time, but I have been following them this year.

Oh, and I’ve been told by several friends that I’m both a Cubs fan AND a White Sox fan (yeah, figure THAT one out…), as well as a Red Sox fan and a Patriots fan. Suffice to say, they are welcome to their opinions, but I’m not sure how I feel about any of those, haha.

Preds 1st Flyers close 2nd

Whoever the Cubs, Notre Dame, and Vols are playing (greatest year of my life would be for the Preds to win the Cup and the Cubs and Vols to lose every game.)

I HATE soccer and pro basketball.

Patriots (cause of Brady) and Packers (cause of Favre, know I am one of the few)

Angels, Cards, Twins because of their current or in Cards case former managers.

Michigan (can now cheer for them again since they got rid of Rich Rod still think they treated Carr terribly.)

Duke (cause of Coach K.)

The Predators in hockey I didn’t really follow hockey until about 8 years ago and I loved their logo, team speed, and Sully was my favorite player when I was a casual fan growing up. Im from Indiana so I love Notre Dame, Indy Colts, and IU basketball. Baseball I have always been a Cardinals fan, Pro Basketball the Indiana Pacers. I also like all the service academy schools since I was in the Marines and have a healthy respect for the military.

I live in Phoenix, Arizona but I have no real affinity for any teams I watch the Coyotes when they play the Pred’s and Redwing’s (To root against of course).

I don't FOLLOW any other sports or teams

but I do check standings and scores and sometimes highlights of the Predators opponents. Also, I enjoy watching hockey games when I can catch them on, whatever teams they are.
Other sports that I don’t follow but do enjoy watching. Fútbol, rally racing, and women’s beach volleyball.

It's an eclectic mix

Before I reveal my choices, let me say that I am Tennessee-born and raised (which might make my favorites even more confusing).
At the NHL level, it’s the Preds and nobody else. I was a Gretzky fan while he played, and was a Kings fan while he was there, but when the Preds came into being, they took over and I haven’t looked back.
For my NFL team, it’s not the Titans, since they moved here, I still don’t consider them entirely Tennessee’s team. I would have rather had an expansion team that would build its own memories and not have been a former vagabond. Instead, I have probably suffered more than most since I have followed the Detroit Lions since the Barry Sanders days. (FYI: We’re on the way to “restoring the roar”, and that is a very redeeming feeling as a fan)
I am a Seattle Mariners fan since the early days of Ken Griffey, Jr. (the Nintendo games were a HUGE influence on me) and I was swayed to the Chicago Cubs as well.
I despise the NBA, but I enjoy college basketball (Tennessee but also my alma mater, Tennessee Tech).
I’m Big Orange through and through in college football, Rocky Top will always be home sweet home to me.
I also watch NASCAR and golf (Jeff Burton and Phil Mickelson, respectively).

I did mention a team from Detroit, so let me reiterate: I am not a Red Wings fan! Down with the Dead Things!

You're welcome.

by cbrooksy on Jan 28, 2012 12:54 PM EST reply actions

NFL – Detroit Lions, been watching them since the end of the Billy Sims era
NBA – meh
MLB – Detroit Tigers, been watching them since their last WS win in 1984
NHL – Uhhhh, I plead the fifth amendment
NCAA bball & football – Cheer for the U of Michigan Wolverines and my school Tennessee Tech. Maybe Tech will make the field of 68 for the first time since 1962 this season! (I just saw that Murray St is the only undefeated left in the country… never mind)

How can I be a human rocket ship without any rocket fuel?

by djzielin on Jan 29, 2012 8:32 AM EST reply actions

NHL—Preds of course, and the Flyers almost as much
NBA—stopped following after the Latrell Sprewell incident
MLB—Phillies and Blue Jays, may add the Dodgers when they get some more players who’ve been through Chattanooga
NFL—Titans, Eagles, Saints
AFL—Collingwood, St. Kilda, North Melbourne
Soccer—Everton, Newcastle, Fiorentina, Montpellier, and of course Chattanooga FC
NCAA—Vandy, UTC
Cricket—Victoria, Glamorgan, Ireland

Other teams

NFL – Green Bay Packers
College(all sports)-University of Tennessee. Go Big Orange
