Shea Weber & Ryan Suter split up in NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft

Photo

Nashville Predators defensemen Shea Weber and Ryan Suter were selected for opposite sides in the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft tonight, with Weber going to Daniel Alfredsson's squad, and Suter going with the very next pick to Team Chara. Weber was the last pick in the 8th round, while Suter was the first in the 9th round.

In an odd exchange during the 4th round which was picked up by the microphone, Alfredsson pointed to his list and said "what about Shea Weber", to which his assistant captain Henrik Lundqvist said "no", and pointed to a different name, which turned out to be Claude Giroux.

Weber & Suter were the 4th and 5th defensemen taken, after Erik Karlsson (chosen by his teammate Alfredsson), Kimmo Timonen (Team Chara) and Kris Letang (Team Alfredsson). The draft results can be found at NHL.com.

Craig Smith, as a rookie, will participate in the Skills Competition as a member of Team Alfredsson.

The Skills Competition takes place Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Central on the NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus), while the All-Star Game itself is on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Central, also on NBC Sports.

Watch out for a trade for either Suter or Weber so they play on the same team.

I doubt it, right before Chara picked Suter he said something to the effect of not leaving him so they could play together…

if chara had chosen weber, so much for a hardest shot match-up. so you knew where weber would go.

Painful seeing Hartnell and Timmo up there.

I liked both of them, especially Timmo (Hartnell was a penalty machine). Amazing Craig L. forced DP to trade away 2 future all-stars for essentially nothing substantial. It is also painful that Peks is not there. It is awesome that Shea, Ryan, and Honey Bear are there though. Hope we can keep home grown talent. I am ready for Radulov to come back.

sorry

I am dreaming about the team we could have been. Still we are not bad.

Doubt Blum will ever be an All-Star or have the local tradition those guys had.

Hartnell and Kimmo were Preds. The bloom is off the Blum as you know. This is all the work of the former owner who miraculously or not so miraculously became the owner of the Wild. He thinned out the herd at Nashville (stallions) and then immediately owned the Wild. I wonder whether it registered in him tonight that there were 5 Preds or former Preds on the stage tonight, including Smith. What could have been sooner rather than later.

Hope Blum makes the club again.

Not saying that I DON'T want Blum back...

But I’ve been very, very satisfied with how we’ve been playing without him.

I think he will make it back, he just needs some more "seasoning."

I think he will be pretty good in the end.

Blum has skills. I just don’t think Hillen and Cube make very good partners for him. He needs to be with a SOB, DeVries, Cale Hulse kind of dude. …either than or just some more time to develop. His confidence seemed pretty low as the season wore on this year.

hillen and cube haven’t made good partners for many. blum and kk did well last season, but not this one. i don’t know how his defensive game is going with the ads, but i like him offensively. maybe blum and ellis could make a try at a 3rd D pairing.

That makes two of us..

Thats ready for Rads to come back. Darkest day in franchise history IMO. Well now that you mention it, the day Kimmo & Scotty left was too.

For me it was the day they reported our team was being bought by Balsillie

by Lil cutie on Jan 26, 2012 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

I agree.

I hope Rads comes back trying to be like Pavel as opposed to Ovie. As far as hockey goes, I will take both options.

ha – if he’s anything like Ovi on his return, I’ll take that too

That is great. I am going to have to pick that one up.

Also, Target had Honey Badger shirts, not sure if they still do.

anyone catch the ottawa fan yell ‘pick belak’ at team chara? classy

Saw Webs and Sutes talking to Iginla

Wouldn’t it be awesome if that was a precursor to a trade, and they know something we don’t?

by Preds of State on Jan 27, 2012 1:03 AM EST reply actions

To be honest

I was hoping Weber would end up on Chara’s squad to be paired together. That’d be monstrous! Anyway, since the All-Star game features no D, this won’t tell anyone anything about who is better. I just hope they have a good showing, and that Weber doesn’t get screwed out of the MVP because VS/NBCSP gets the stats wrong like they did last year!

yeah, guys like Weber and Chara are usually not very fun to watch in the All-Star game itself. They won’t take the slap shot for fear of hurting someone in a meaningless game. And no one plays defense so they just kind of skate around for a while then get off the ice.

Fine by me though. We need Weber and Suter fresh for the rest of the season.

being fresh is the good thing about peks not going.
