Who to trade?
as we all know we need a top 6 forward and since we have many talented young forwards and many young defense men with a lot of potential like Ellis, Ekholm, Josi, and Blum. I was thinking if we do not sign Suter we will be fine because of our young talented defensive core, so I would put Suter on the trading block and my guess is we will have a lot of people who will be willing to trade a top 6 forward for him. We could also maby even get a star player if we put a forward like Halischuk, Hornqvist, or Wilson and a 1st or 2nd draft pick in the trade. so I was wondering who we could possibly get that would really benefit our chances of making the cup or atleast the 3rd round of the stanley cup playoffs.
Also I would do this when we figure out if Weber is ok.

We could get almost anyone for Suter.
We wouldn’t have to throw in anyone to sweeten the pot…unless it was Giroux or Corey Perry.

I was thinking zach parise because he fits all our needs and since his contract expires this year as well as suters it will be a fair deal

Suter, Wilson and a 1st gets you any player.
Ever.
In the history of the world.
And in the future too.

Ovechkin?
They should’ve traded with us in ’07!

Actually....
Putting Suter and Wilson and a pick in a package is pointless.
Mario Lemieux retired years ago.
If Suter Won't Sign
If money is no object and Suter wont sign. The whole trade for a top forward becomes kinda irrelevant. He is basically sending a message to the rest of the league and its players that he feels the Organization is not on the path to pursue the cup. No top six forward would want to come to a team heading nowhere. If they had no choice, it would be a short time before they would seek better opportunities. Even if the money was top tier, a player wants to compete for the cup and would eventually tire of Nashville and its no frills style of play.
We would be better off to trade him to the Islanders, Canes, Jackets or Oilers and take their next 2 first round picks and a up and coming young gun. And let him see what its like to swim at the bottom of the barrel for a while. And watch the playoff on TV in April.
Yeah buddy.
I agree.

6th in the West in Goals...
and the 4th-best powerplay in the league (…my…Goodness. is that really true?)
…but with a -3 goal differential, and a PK languishing in the bottom 1/3.
Is a top-6 forward really what is needed at this point in time? If forwards score, and defensemen stop the other team from scoring…
Not saying a forward definitely isn’t the answer, but this edition of the Predators has a different feel than usual.

This is where you err........
Forwards scoring contains within it having the puck in the other teams Dzone, hence they can’t score on you from there. A forward who controls the play when he’s on the ice, like, I dunno, Zach Parise, helps in all zones of the ice.
But as for the OP’s question, trading a Suter or Weber is a tricky situation. A team that’s not making the playoffs isn’t going to trade for a player that will leave for free agency after the season is over. A team that thinks it’s got a chance to win the Cup might trade for them even if there’s no garuantee they may be able to sign them, but they will want to send back picks and prospects, not key parts of their roster.
So, the best way to make a positive out of this negative, should it come to that, is to move Suter or Weber for high round picks/prospects and then use the freed up money on either the UFA market next summer or in making a big trade or two in the off-season. With a stockpile of draft picks to use as tradebait, we would be in a good position to make some deals.
But getting equal value for either Suter or Weber in the way of a player from a trading partner would be very difficult to do. For that reason, my guess is that Poile holds onto both of them and tries to get as good a playoff run as he can and then tries to move them at the draft and get something back in return for them, as he did with Hamhuis.
Without making a significant move to bolster this teams chances at competing for the Cup, Poile will be assuring that neither of them stay here, IMO.

That’s true…however, the exact same thing may be said of a D-man. A good D gets the puck out of the defensive zone quickly, and keeps it in the offensive zone for longer stretches of time. A good player of any position (often) will both increase GF, and decrease GA.
Personally, I find it easier to point out players on the back end that could be upgraded than I do to point out upgradeable forwards. I dunno, though. Any upgrade would help. Spend some of that darn cap space…

Considering that we have two Dmen playing about 25 minutes a game that aren’t going to be losing icetime to a new comer, it makes more sense to acquire a forward who could play top minutes here without taking away icetime from a better player than himself. We have two all-star caliber Dmen, we don’t have a single all-star forward.

Perhaps…but then again, the forwards are mostly a decent bunch, even if no one stands out quite like the Cap’n and Suter.
I’m wary of having a few all-star players and lacking depth, because you can end up either running into an excellent shutdown defense, or else relying too much on top players and powerplay production (a trend I already see some of in Nashville.)
I may be reading too much into a very limited statistic, but Klein and Blum combine for a 26 +/ over the first half of this year…hypothetically speaking, trade those two for a D pairing that plays the same minutes but simply holds their own at even strength, and you gain (or prevent the baddies from getting) 15-ish goals.
It might be as simple as substituting a good Dman for Klein to play with, and letting Blum go back to Milwaukee for a minute or two. It might be as simple as adding a top forward. I dunno, and I see reasons why either option might/could work…I do know, though, the team scores only .86 goals per opposition goal at Even Strength, and that’s A Problem. (And since Weber + Suter are solidly pluses, that means the rest of the team is even worse than .86 per Op. Goal…ouch.) Again, limited statistic and all, I know, but still…
Bottom line: I do NOT like when the Preds can’t hold their own at even strength. Whatever fixes it is A-owe-kay with me. Long-winded rant over.

That’s what I ultimately expect out of this. Suts gets shopped, but no team is willing to give up a forward that we desire in return. So the “negotiating” continues until after the season, hits a stand still, and the rights to Suts are traded for picks. Sad, but true.
As for Webs, he hits the RFA market and is either offered a ridiculous contract and bolts or signs another 1 year deal with the Preds. Preds have 1 more season to prove to Webs that they’re serious about contending. The end.

Wilson
I think that Wilson should be off limits. Big power forwards with his type of skill are hard to find. If Wilson leaves what big forward do we have besides McGrattan (no crack on McGrattan as he has been playing pretty well the last few games despite his limited ice time) that are hard to force off the puck? Boston proved last year that size does matter in the playoffs. I understand you have to trade skill to get skill, but I just don’t see Wilson’s skill set/size as being easily replaceable.
I haven't read more than your very first sentence yet, and I'm completely in agreement with you. No touchy Willy.
(Now, having read the rest of your post…) Wilson is indeed a beautiful and hard to find player. He’s only 22 years old, and he’s already an unbelievably talented, fast, and smart hockey player. We keep talking about getting a top-6 forward, which is great, but I feel like if we get rid of Willy to get that player, we’d just be taking a step backwards. He’s only TWENTY TWO! He has a long way to go, and I would bet good money that he’s going to be a solid top-6 forward one day. Why get rid of someone who is slowly (well, maybe not that slowly, looking at his season thus far!) but surely developing into the player we’re looking to attain?!
Keep Colin Wilson. With the way he’s been playing, the day he leaves Nashville will be a very sad day indeed.

If we trade a player I'd like it to be Ellis with a player that might not be playing here next season.
For example; I’d like Kostitsyn to stay a Predator but if he doesn’t want to re-sign at the end of the season we should shop him.

I dunno… I’d be fine if we got rid of Tits. As happy as I was with his play last year, it doesn’t seem to be continuing into this year whatsoever. He doesn’t shoot, he hasn’t been scoring consistently (that hat-trick doesn’t count – it was great, but 1 of them was an ENG, and I doubt that he scores 2+ goals in another game anytime soon) He’s been Riverdancing (er.. the Belarusian equivalent) on my last nerve for about 2 months now.

Oops, totally didn't finish my thought there.
He doesn’t shoot, he hasn’t been scoring consistently, he doesn’t really seem to hustle on the ice, he passes too much and many of those passes, as of late, seem to be resulting in turn-overs, and did I mention that he doesn’t EVER shoot the damn puck?
