After the high cost of insurance and taxes prevented his return to Djurgarden in Sweden, Hornqvist will take his game to Switzerland instead.
Today, HC Red Ice Martigny of the Swiss National League B is trumpeting not only the signing of Patric Hornqvist to a new contract, but they also expect to ink NHL veteran Alexei Kovalev as well. Kovalev has bounced around to several teams over the last few years, spending last season with Atlant of the KHL.
Predators defenseman Roman Josi is already with SC Bern in the National League A, so they won't get the chance to play against each other for now.
A report on the Swiss National League's site indicates that this is a 1-month contract for now, but it can be extended depending on how long the NHL Lockout lasts. HC Red Ice is currently in 1st place in their league, while Lausanne, which had also been reported to be in the hunt for Hornqvist's service, sits 8th out of 11 teams.
