One of the most frustrating parts of the NHL lockout is the fan's inability to do anything about it. No matter how unreasonable the owners or players are, there hasn't been many effective ways for fans to express their displeasure.
I bored and messing around on Twitter today and noticed that the NHL twitter account has over 1 million followers. A following that large is extremely valuable. The business of Twitter and Facebook has become very important from a marketing aspect for any company. Thats why I was amazed that after all the dissatisfaction about the way the NHL has conducted the lockout, there are still over 1 million people following the NHL twitter feed.
So here's what I propose. If you want to send the NHL a message that fans are a valuable commodity and should not be ignored or pushed aside, then unfollow official NHL twitter accounts and unlike any official NHL facebook pages. It might seem insignificant, but enough if enough people unfollow on Twitter it WILL send a message (and hurt the NHL's bottom line). And if you've got any friends that are also sick of Bettman and the owners, let them know to #UnfollowNHL
