New York Times Honors Grim Reaper

The New York Times honored a former Predators enforcer in today's ( December 12) Crossword. Constructor Peter A. Collins has this clue for 66-Down: "Grimson of the N.H.L." The answer is, as everyone who reads On the Forecheck knows, STU. Hockey-related definitions are a rarity in the Times Crossword and the answers are in general reasonably easy for solvers who are not hockey fans; for example, "Boston's legendary number 4" (ORR) and "Mr. Hockey in Detroit" (HOWE). That doesn't mean constructors couldn't work some Predators into future puzzles: "Bearded long range bomber on Nashville ice" (WEBER). For more scholastic solvers: "He was, if Nashville had been in the Roman Empire" (ERAT). Or, to reach a little bit: "Peter Piper picked a..." (PEKKA).
