Re-assembling the current standings to days of lore
So anyways, I have this nice sized Excel spreadsheet that I have twisted and manipulated over the last three years to rank teams according to their expected points (Pythagorean style!) at the end of the season, their home vs away prorated records for the end of the season and their prorated overall records for the end of the season.
Also amongst this spreadsheet, I have done a what if (please be in mind that in-game "go for broke" is not included in this analysis) of the current standings, assuming that all shootouts are referenced to as ties and all OTL are in fact... losses.
Here would be the updated (as of 2/14/2012) Eastern and Western Conference Standings (disregarding divisional standings):

| NY Rangers | 33-14-7 73 |

| Montreal | 21-27-9 51 |
| Tampa Bay | 22-28-5 49 |

I would comment on this post but its author doesn't like the Beatles.

The funny thing is that it doesn’t really appear to change the standings all that much.

St Louis jumping over Detroit for first in the West isn’t changing a whole lot?
Hello. My name is Bob and I do not know the Beatles.
not when they’re 3rd right now. Det 82, Van 80, STL 79. That’s pretty darn close to what you’re showing up there.

as far as top 3 yes, but if you seed them 1st and 4th, that is a big drop.
I’ll be doing the update on these tomorrow.

There are 23+ games left in the season. Seeding isn’t permanent. Either one could fall to 4th or 5th over 23 games. Or not. Who knows?
