Predators post-game wrapup: "Pesky Preds" aim to ruin Detroit's fun

Following the Nashville Predators 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks tonight, the team will have the benefit of a confidence boost as they prepare for a road game at Detroit on Friday, where the last 21 visitors have tasted defeat. During the player segment of tonight's post-game show, Preds winger Colin Wilson said that the "pesky Preds" are aiming to ruin the fun up in Motown.

On the other side of tonight's game, however, the mood is getting dark on a Blackhawks team which has now dropped 9 straight games:

Ugh, please do not adopt the Pesky adjective. #peskystars has thoroughly beat that nickname into the ground this season. Go Preds.

The Admirals use it, too. My timeline is filled with #peskyAds tweets. Especially since Latta’s been on IR. I think he’s bored.

old Persian proverb

when fortune turns against you even jelly will crack your tooth.

not sure what more we could have done tonight. Can’t be unhappy with the effort. Toews has got to bury that shot from the slot off a great play by Lepsito. I’m not sure if he’s still hurt, but he shot it right into Rinne’s glove next to his belly. Rinne never moved it. A sniper buries that upper right corner.

Although I’d say we carried the play, The Predators never stop hustling. It was a fun game to watch despite the outcome.

Keiths stick got a good piece of ellis’s shot – a lot of people in Chicago are claiming they could have made that save. If Crow or Emery would have let in either goal the Hawks shot tonight they would have been tarred and feathered.

Like to see you guys beat the Wings- they’re luck is the exact opposite of the hawks at the moment.

Emery actually had a lot of great saves to keep the Hawks in it.

There were several point blank shots that Emery got.

I don't know what to say......

On the one hand I want to feel sorry for the Hawks for how sorry they are right now. On the other hand, I hate the Hawks and feel it couldn’t happen to a nicer buncha fellas.

kind of a related story

I used to golf with 3 friends every Sat. morning at 5:50am. A little hard getting up, but once you got there, it was a small slice of heaven on earth. One day, I was really struggling and in typical hacker form became quite a miserable person. I steadfastly resisted my friends attempts to cheer me up, wallowing in self pity. Every ounce of my body laguage said I’m miserable and I want to stay this way.

I ended up recovering and won a big carry over on the skin game. This prompted one of the regulars to say, “Why the hell did I feel sorry for you,” when he saw my instantaneous cahnge in demeanor.

Moral of the story is, when you can, “Kick the hell out of a dog when he’s down.”

They have had a lot of success over their history, but the first nine seasons the Preds were in the league, the Hawks only made it to the playoffs once. Our longest win streak against them is seven games, our longest losing streak is four games.

your honest opinion

Klein, not Toews, should have been sent to the box in the first.

By the way, Pred fans deserve to have mangement sign Keep both Weber and Suter. As much as i’d like to have either one, I’m a big proponent of stars staying where they are.

I thought the call was sketchy. Klein didn’t deserve to go to the box. Toews wasn’t being pushed but he wasn’t being allowed to cut in front. Toews could have skated to his left and not hit Pekka. The thing is, if that is TooToo instead of Toews, it is a suspension.
I thought a couple of the early calls, one for Hawks, two for Preds, were kind of weak. I think Toronto called in the first intermission and told the refs to let them play.

although I thought Toews was pushed, and he was trying to stop....

I agree with everything else you wrote.

I didn’t feel tooToo deserved a suspension. He was also pushed a little and actually was tring to spin away from Miller while in the air. I don’t even think the collision was that bad. He was going hard to the net and when knocked off balance lost control.

I hesitate to ask the enemy what they thought about reffing ussually, because you normally get back 2 or 3 penalties that weren’t called for your side.

by wardrums on Feb 15, 2012 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

After the first, I thought it was called pretty well, or no-called rather well, for both sides.

Toews could have avoided it.

That’s why he got the penalty. I get that Klein “guided” him into the goalie, but there didn’t seem to be a definitive push of Toews. Thus, he could have avoided it if he wanted to, but didn’t and he deserved the penalty. To Toews’ credit, he didn’t try and hurt Rinne, he just ran into him.

Klein wasn’t going to let him cut in front of Peks. ‘Guided’ may be too strong a word.

Henceforth, in my house at least, he shall be referred to as Gnomeo.

Emery made some tremendous saves in the second. as the Hawk faithful are saying, they need much better Dmen after their top 2.

Emery made a few good saves on the tips. Peks made a couple late on Toews.

I noticed a couple times where I thought Kane could have continued toward the net, but chose to pivot away. Maybe that why he isn’t scoring.
