Wednesday afternoon notes: Girls can "Try Hockey For Free" this Saturday

According to a report out of Edmonton, the Predators were one of two teams enthusiastically pursuing a trade for Ryan Smyth.

This weekend at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, there's a great opportunity for girls to try out the sport of hockey, as part of an effort by the Nashville Youth Hockey League. "Try Hockey For Free" takes place Saturday, February 18th, and is your daughter's chance to get out there and catch a bit of what the game of hockey is all about.

All the info can be found in the PDF document available here:

Nashville Predators News

Wings and Predators were highest on Smyth | Edmonton Journal
Jim Matheson reports that the Predators were interested in Oilers forward Ryan Smyth, who has been pulled off the trade market by Edmonton. "They were both hot to trot for Smyth, especially the Predators who are dying for a top six forward, especially one with net presence. Nashville likes Ales Hemsky, too, but liked Smyth more, in large part because coach Barry Trotz has a history with the Edmonton Oilers’ winger from the world championship when he was a coach for Canada." I could certainly believe that.

Would have loved Smyth in our sweater

But oh well

I am going to preface with I love Bourque but what about
Morrow and Grossman for Bourque, Mueller, Ekholm, J. Smith, and our 2nd?

Or Cullen and Zanon for Smithers, Ekholm, and Beck?

Smytty’s cooled off offensively after a very hot start to the season, but he’s being asked to take on the tough minutes to protect the kids, and he’s not young himself. Definitely still a useful player, and he probably would have found a role in the Preds’ bottom six. Out of curiosity, what would Preds’ fans have been willing to give up for him?

Bottom six? We need a top six player, or really top 3. I never really thought about the guy, so I don’t know what I’d offer. Probably something like Blum+Lindback+pick?

That’s a lot more than I was expecting to hear! I love Smyth, and was overjoyed when he came back to Edmonton, but I don’t know that he’s worth that much at this stage of his career. I’d love to have that Lindback fellow in an Oilers’ sweater, though… :)

I really don’t know his value, so I’m bad to ask. :P

No problem – I really have no idea what the perception of Smyth is right now, so I’m interested in all kinds of opinions!

A 2nd and Laasko? Cannot imagine the package coming back would have been great since everyone knows that July 1st he was re-signing in oil country.

Blum and a 1st if it had been Smyth and Omark? Our am I undervaluing Omark?

by wrandsw on Feb 15, 2012 9:50 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Omark is still a bit of a puzzle. There’s some nervousness in Oilerland over the possibility that the org will give up on him, but at the same time it’s not really clear yet what his top potential really is. With Omark, we wait…

I know most don’t like ol’ 20 Cent around here, but I’d LOVE to put him back with SK74. Give them Lindback and a pick, get ’er done!

I liked Kane until I heard a Blackhawks fan screaming “QUIT DOING SO MUCH BLOW AND SCORE MORE GOALS”. His luster wore off after that.

If Seattle had a team, we should NEVER go play there. Chris Hansen is backing the building of a stadium…. sounds like a trap for the Preds!
