just a random question...

Since Columbus has the ASG, what if they trade all their superstars? What would one of the teams be named? Team Prospal? That will definitely work. A sort of stupid thing to talk about, but I was just curious anyways. I don’t even think Columbus will get any of it’s own players in.

Future is now story

Preds article on Yahoo about winning now, very interesting comments from Suter.
At this point he consistently sounds like the assistant GM! Make no mistake about it, unless DP aquires some kind of forward help he’s out of here and Weber too.
Fully respect their desire to win now but I’ve never seen a situation like this.
If Suter would sign would that not make Poile’s job a bit easier? Unbelievable that it’s come to this and if they lose in the first round then what? Hope things work out other wise it could get really ugly here in Smashville.

by virgil trucks on Feb 18, 2012 2:15 PM EST reply actions

I'm taking a positive view

It was a Yahoo article so I doubt that they really talked to Suter. They are probably re-using a “quote” from the last few weeks. Trust me, I’m right there with you that Suter could have kept his mouth shut and not stirred the pot. But, everyone outside of Nashville is using that to continue to stir the pot.

Hal Gill is Cody Franson just 12 years more experience and 12 years older. Shame we had to waste a second and Boom-boom for what we gave away last year.

by DHack on Feb 18, 2012 3:05 PM EST reply actions

Toward the end of last year, I saw some nice potential in Franson but more as an offensive D man. He was working on a really quick wrister from the point. I dont’ see either on the PK for a number of years. Franson isn’t exactly lighting it up.

by Catwoman on Feb 18, 2012 8:11 PM EST up reply actions

They dont play similarly at all. Gill is closer to a better disciplined Obrien.

Hopefully, both get to give it a try with Gill and we see what works. Ellis has way more offensive upside but Cube knows where he needs to be. If Gill’s wingspan can cover for Ellis’ occasional pinch at the wrong time, it could be a match made in heaven.

by Catwoman on Feb 18, 2012 10:51 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly. The one thing I worry about with an Ellis-Gill pairing is that Gill might not be able to get back fast enough to cover for Ellis. We shall see!

Hands go uuppp..... AND THEY STAY THERE!
-nashvillepredators-

by davisca on Feb 18, 2012 10:58 PM EST up reply actions

i think lines will be conditional

Cube and Ellis will probably take their turns in the press box depending on which opponent the team is playing that night. At this point i don’t think there is anything left for Ellis in Milwaukee, he just needs to observe the nhl game. But he could be sent down if the roster spot becomes necessary.

In games where Ellis plays, it might not matter how fast Gill is. Trotz has not been shy about protecting Ellis in even-strength play, so Gill will only have to chase down 3rd and 4th liners.

Even if you are correct

That 12 years is a big boost of experience, plus the fact he won a Cup helps too. Franson has neither. He hasn’t exactly been tearing it up in Toronto either.

Alexander Radulov

He just left his team in Russia. No one knows what he is going to do next. The KHL commish said he doesn’t think that he is going to leave the league and that he is going to a different team in the league. If I was Polie I would send someone right now to get him and bring him to Nashville. This will solve our need for a scorer without giving up anything.

UPDATE: If the president of the Kontinental Hockey League is correct, Alexander Radulov won’t be returning to his NHL squad — the Nashville Predators — anytime soon.

As relayed by the Hockey News, Alexander Medvedev suggests Radulov will play the 2012-13 season with his current team, Salavat Yulaev.

“He’s under contract for another year,” Medvedev told The Canadian Press Friday. “I’m not aware about the clause that he could leave next year.”

Those with a supremely wry sense of humor might appreciate the relevant history in play. Like how Radulov fled the NHL in 2008 to join the Russian league in it’s infancy — despite having a year left on his contract with the Predators.

We’re sure Preds GM David Poile is doubled right over, riddled with a serious case of the giggles.

- Victoria Matiash

As a number of playoff contenders vie for the services of potential rent-a-players at the trade deadline, the Nashville Predators may have an even better option. The club has been without one of their top up-and-coming players for nearly four years. What if they somehow managed to get him back right now?

It’s still a fairly long shot at the moment, but David Boclair of the Nashville City Paper examined just how feasible it might be to see Alexander Radulov back in a Preds’ uniform as soon as this season. He left for the KHL after the 2007-08 campaign, but he can essentially come back at any time, still has ties to Nashville and has a good connection with current team leaders Ryan Suter and Shea Weber.

On top of all that, Radulov has spent the last few years carving his way through the KHL. Preds’ GM David Poile refers to him as the “best player not playing in the NHL”. Nashville — understandably — wasn’t very happy when he took off for Russia in the middle of his NHL contract. But, if he somehow could be added to this current roster, he could potentially take an already strong team to a new level.

It’s fine. I think everyone was a little amped up last night. The issue is that over the past several months, we’ve had a fair number of people come in and yell for Suter/Poile/Predobear/Trotz/Vokoun/Crispy/etc.‘s head (often for little/no reason), and I think a lot of us have just gotten tired of reading anything remotely similar to that. (I don’t want to speak for everyone, so feel free to correct me if you feel otherwise.) I don’t think it was necessarily what you said (because Suter has indeed not been playing 100% recently); I think it was more about both the timing (posted after a crappy loss with emotions running high) and our history with those kind of posts. At least in my experience, people who have written similar posts (i.e., anti-majority) tend to show up once or twice, complain to high heaven about one or two guys and annoy everyone on here, and then never really come back. So with those expectations (no offense meant, honestly), it’s nice to see that you’ve come back today!! Hopefully Suter will pick up his play tomorrow — getting Gill’s gotta be a great psychological boost — and will leave his little iffy streak behind him. I don’t think he’s been playing badly enough to be traded by ANY means (plus, we really don’t have anyone who can fill his shoes… Klein, maybe, but even he can’t do what Suter does), but he hasn’t been what we have come to expect, no. Let’s see what this trade does for him. As an Alt. Captain, my guess is that he’ll feel the pressure to perform well, show Hal what he can expect to play with, and welcome him to the team. That’s a lot of good psychological pressure, so who knows what will happen. Let’s hope for the best!

Pavel Kubina to the Flyers for either a 2nd or conditional 2nd and either a 2012 4th or 2013 5th. It’s kind of confusing right now.

Either way Philly has to move someone to take anyone else on—they have 51 contracts otherwise.

I said Tampa would be sellers, they are the perfect trading partners. Opposite conference. They need goal tending and defense, we need a play maker. Stamkos is obviously off the table, Vinny’s contract is too long for too much. That leaves St. Louis. He still has a couple of years left on his contract at a reasonable price. Lindback or Blum and our first rounder. Of course Im sure he has a NTC.

St Louis will not be traded unless he asks to be. By that I mean that he approaches Yzerman and asks to be traded. They are NOT going to go to him like they did to Kubina and may or may not have done with Malone.

I hear what you're saying

I’m not trying to push your buttons, I promise. I live in Tampa Bay and went to several of their playoff games last year. Stamkos is a beast, and Vinny was better than I expected, given all of the trade rumors and people saying he’s over paid, but it’s St. Louis I really enjoy watching. He’s all over the ice and is so elusive. It’s just wishful thinking, I can’t imagine why he would wave his NTC even if he was asked. It just seems like both teams have pieces that the other team needs.

I don’t mean to overreact, but I think Stammergeddon scarred me.

And Vinny is overpaid. Anyone on that contract would be overpaid. I love the guy, but that is a whole lot of money, and, quite frankly, I can’t think of anyone who could possibly deserve it. But the man does his job and does it well.

I will say that there are Lightning fans who really want Blum. And although I haven’t heard anyone bring him up, I bet they’d take Lindback in a heartbeat.

I was planning on heading down to the office and having a talk with Guy today to, you know, facilitate things. You wanna go with me? I mean, look at it this way, if there was one chance in a bazillion that St. Louis was gonna leave, where would it make you happiest for him to land?

I just can’t. It’d be like ripping the heart out of one child in favor of another. I just can’t.

To me Marty is the Lightning. I don’t even have a way to compare it to the Preds because they’ve never had a player who means to them what Marty means to the Lightning. He is the heart and soul of that team. They need him. He should retire a Bolt.

If he left, yeah, I’d rather it be to Nashville than somewhere else, but I don’t think I’d describe my emotions as “happy.”

Nevermind. I didn’t realize he was signed through like 2018 @ 4.25 per.

by Mike Cr on Feb 18, 2012 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

Still worth a look.

It’s until 2018, but it’s only 2.5 next year, and 3.75 the year after that. Granted, if he becomes a career third liner, we’d be stuck with him, but what if he doesn’t. He’s that left winger we need, he’s a 20+ goal scorer… He might be worth the risk. We need someone, and his contact isn’t as horrible as Jeff Carter’s.

It doesn’t help that they win and look like the good guys today with the way the Wild played. Two nasty hits by the Wild that will likely get suspensions. Unless Backes has one hard head, he is the next one out with a concussion.

by Catwoman on Feb 18, 2012 10:47 PM EST up reply actions

I missed the game, just saw the score. The Wild must be getting frustrated, though… they’re usually pretty in control. Hope Backes is ok, even though I really don’t like the guy.

They were retaliating for what they thought should have been a boarding call on Backes. Really, the guy blew a tire and Backes didn’t touch him. Backes took a cross-check to the side of his head – about ear level.

If you've ever had a chance to see him interviewed, you'll notice he's not a very.... well-spoken... guy.

That’s why they interview him SO rarely, haha. Also, he says “UUUUUH” a lot, so I figured this is what he sounds like when he agrees with something.
