At this time of year, the Nashville Predators are usually in the thick of a bumper-to-bumper race for playoff position, where each game along the way carries implications for how they might finish. Fans in the stands keep an eye on the out-of-town scoreboard as well to see how the competition is doing.
This time, however, the Preds are tracking strongly towards the #5 seed - SportsClubStats.com, for example, gives a 79% chance at this point for a 5th-place finish, and an 89% chance of meeting the Detroit Red Wings or St. Louis Blues in the first round (there's a modest chance Nashville could capture the #4 seed, and at least have home-ice advantage).
