Just browsing over the "CapGeek" numbers and there is still alot of Green (UFA's) and Red (RFA's) on the board for the Predators in the 2013-2014 season. One that really stands out is Hornqvist. He is a RFA after next season. His current salary is 3.25mil. Considering we just gave Sergei 3 mil for 2 years, I was just pondering what's Hornqvist's value. Is he worth tying up long term? If he is, shouldn't they be working on that now?
I have to say that Hornqvist is one of my favorites on the team. He may not be the most skilled passer or most graceful carrying the puck up ice, but he get the job done in front of the net and he is not afraid to shoot the puck. In my opinion he is a much more valuable asset than Kostitsyn. Anyone that can stand in front of the net with a Weber slap shot coming their way has to have some guts.
So to judge these two, I tried to keep it as simple as possible Points and Goals in number of games played.
Hornqvist has 142 points 78 goals and 64 assists in 235 games as a Predator.
Kostitsyn has 93 points 40 goals and 53 assists in 152 games as a Predator.
Now when you do the math Hornqvist comes out on top with .332 goals per game but Kostitsyn come out ahead with .612 points per game. Not really what I expected, but understanding that goals are slightly more important than points, the question remains. Where does that put Hornqvist's value in relation to Kostitsyn's new 3mil contract and his current 3.25mil deal? And whats his open market value?. In my world he would probably garner 3 years at 4mil per year. Whats Your Take?
