Trading for a Scoring Forward

It might be early to post this but finishing last in the league in Goals Per Game 2 years in a row is not cool. This team is too good to finish 9th and get a lousy draft pick. Heck, why not shake things up?

RW Mike Cammalleri 31 CGY 6.0 M UFA '15 can be had for:

(1) Josi straight up. (2) Ellis, Smith. (3) Ekholm, Bourque. (4) Legwand, Ellis, Watson

C Paul Stastny 27 COL 6.6 M UFA ’14 can be had for:

(1) Josi and a pick (2) Josi and _______ (Smith, Legwand, Ekholm) (3) Legwand, Smith, Ekholm and a pick (maybe)

RW Ales Hemsky 28 EDM 5.0 M UFA ’15 can be had for:

(1) Ellis, Ekholm (2.) Bourque/Smith + Ellis/Ekholm (3) Legwand/A Young guy (for salary reasons)

There is no better time to trade for LW Nail Yakupov 21 EDM 3.75 RFA ‘15 Do you think Edmonton could pass up offering Josi and Ekholm? With their 40+ GA so far this year? And needing to be a contender soon with all their young forwards and intense pressure from ownership? We could even throw in Mazanec/Hellberg. It would suck losing any of those guys but remember, it’s Nail Yakupov. 1st overall in 2012. PPG player in the KHL at age 20. Someone who could score 30 easily a season.

Heck, even LW Brad Boyes who leads FLA in scoring was available for cheap this summer.

I Love all of our young players immensely and it is especially nice to see Craig Smith leading us in pts and shots and playing like a house on fire for 10 straight games (!) but...

With all this young talent especially, it’s time for GMDP to truly grow a pair.
