Nashville Predators 6, Edmonton Oilers 0: The Preds Bounce Back

Frederick Breedon

Tonight the Preds rebounded from their 3-game losing streak to trounce the Oilers on home ice, behind a Pekka Rinne shutout and four points from Colin Wilson.

On a night when the Nashville Predators needed a win, they took it in convincing fashion, pasting the Oilers 6-0 in front of a delighted Bridgestone Arena crowd. This was one of those nights where pretty much everything went right: Colin Wilson dominated with two goals and two assists, Pekka Rinne reasserted himself with a shutout, and the three Preds making their debuts all put forth strong, effective efforts.

Random Observations

  • There were admittedly a lot of factors helping the Preds tonight - the Oilers were without dangerous winger Ales Hemsky, and had just played last night at Detroit.
  • Still, how about Colin Freaking Wilson?
  • Of all the new guys, Zach Boychuk impressed me the most, as much for his hustle on some of the plays that didn't connect as much as his goal. That said, I'm not surprised to see that kind of energy out of he and Bobby Butler. After all, their NHL careers just flashed before their eyes passing through waivers this week. They should be supremely motivated right now.
  • Congratulations also go out to Victor Bartley on his first career NHL game. He looked comfortable for the most part, and it will be interesting to see how much work he gets in the near term.
  • How about that penalty kill, not giving up two goals in a game? Actually, the Preds didn't have to kill a penalty all night, which is the best PK of all.
  • Hopefully the team can bottle up some of the confidence-building moments from tonight and carry that into tomorrow's game against Minnesota, which is every bit as important as tonight was.
