How The New Cap Can Help Us Address our #1 Need

As we already know, the cap is dropping to $64.3mm next year. This fact means that several teams are in serious cap jeopardy leading into this offseason. This repesents a tremendous opportunity for the Preds. I know thoughts vary, but in my opinion our biggest flaw at this time is that our centers are playing "one line up". Fish is a 2, not a 1, Leggy is a 3 not a 2, and Goose is a 4, while Smith, Willy, and Spals are better off being "swing" forwards at this time. In my opionion if we could add a true first line center, we would be as strong down the middle as anyone, you add that to our defense and goalkeeping and we are back as a Cup contender. So how does the cap help us? Well going into next year, we have 15 players signed with $21.8mm in cap space. As a comparison, Vancouver also has 15 players signed, but only has $1.3mm of cap space, that is a huge issue for the Canucks. They are not alone, a quick look to the East shows that the Bruins have 17 players signed, and $7mm of room, BUT their goaltender is an RFA and he will eat up over half of that amount. These are only 2 of at least a dozen teams in this situation. How nice would a Patrice Bergeron from the Bruins, or (I am holding my nose as I type this)Ryan Kesler of the Canucks look in Gold? Each carries a $5mm hit next year, and each could be a player that their team HAS TO move to get to the cap. Thoughts?
