Wednesday's Dump & Chase:Are You Ready For More Outdoor Games?

Christopher Pasatieri

So it looks like the NHL is set to have not one, not two, but SIX outdoor games next season. I like the Winter Classic, so I guess I'd like to see some expansion, but six seems like a lot. The biggest problem I can see with this plan though is the proposed game at Dodger Stadium. You know, because of the sun. The average high in Los Angeles in January is in the upper 60's, which could prove troublesome for a game played on frozen water. Making these games more inclusive of west coast teams is important, and the plan to have one of the games in Vancouver is a good one. But Los Angeles just isn't a realistic option. If you absolutely have to have it in California, moving the game north to San Francisco gets you a 10 degree temperature drop. Or hey, how about Denver? A neutral site like Seattle, or even Kansas City might work too. But if they insist on having the game in L.A., I have a great tag line...Kings vs. Ducks: When Hell Freezes Over. I don't like Los Angeles.

A move from Phoenix to Las Vegas on the other hand? Much easier, but would the NHL, or any pro sport ever expand to Las Vegas? I could be wrong, but there seems to be less gambling associated with hockey compared to other sports. So maybe. Just probably not this time.
