3rd Round Pick Possibilities

With Nashville having the fourth overall pick, many people, including myself, are rightfully focussing a lot on players like Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Drouin, and Valeri Nichushkin. Because this is such a deep draft that still has very good players even in the third round, I decided to write about players the Predators might have their eye on in at that time.

Nick Baptiste

6'1.5" 200 lbs

Right Wing

OHL (Sadbury Wolves) 66 GP, 21 G, 27 A, 48 P, -1

U18 WJC (Canada) 7 GP, 3 G, 5 A, 8 P, +6

Baptiste is an Ottawa native who played in the OHL for the Sadbury Wolves and who projects to go right around Nashville's pick. According to the Hockey Writers, he is a hard working, two way forward, who possesses good speed and a good physical game. He has become a very good asset for the Wolves as a penalty killer. He projects to be a solid third or fourth liner who is an asset in the penalty kill.

Matt Murphy

6'1" 185lbs

D

QMJHL (Val-d'Or Foreurs) 40 GP, 1G, 23 A, 24 P, +2

(Halifax Mooseheads) 29 GP, 1 G, 8 A, 9 P, +20

Murphy is a defensive defenseman who is very reliable in his own zone and has the ability to put up points if needed. He is on of the best QMJHL defensemen as he has good hockey sense, good hitting, and a good upside. He is not the most skilled player in the world but as a defensive defenseman, he doesn't need to be.

Marko Dano

Marko Daňo 2013 WJC U20 Highlights (via bigwhite06)

5'11" 183 lbs

C/RW

U20 WJC (Slovakia) 6 GP, 4 G, 5 A, 9 P

IIHF (Slovakia) 5 GP 1 A, 1 P

KHL (HC Slovan Bratislava) 37 GP, 3 G, 4 A, 7 P, +4

Dano is a prospect who projects to go anywhere from the mid second round to the mid third round. He is a strong, feisty, center who plays well in all zones. He can play both on the power play and on the penalty kill. He is a good passer and an agitator.

Michael Downing

6'2.5" 186 lbs

D

USHL (Dubuque Fighting Saints) 52 GP, 3 G, 20 A, 23 P, 107 PIM, +16

Downing is a big D-man who is committed to Michigan but currently plays for the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL. He is a mix of physicality, size, and mobility. He projects to be a defensive defenseman who has good upside.

Brett Pesce

6'3" 174 lbs

D

NCAA (University of New Hampshire) 38 GP, 1G, 5 A, 6 P, +6

Pesce has very good control of his defensive play by using great gap control and great control of his stick. He projects to be a shut down d-man with some offensive potential. An interesting side note: his coach believes in not rushing defensive development by relying on the older players.
