Whether you think he should be fired or celebrated, David Poile is Sixty-Four years old.
Jim Rutherford is 65 years old and has been the Carolina Hurricanes general manager since June 1994 (while they were the Hartford Whalers), 2 months before the birth of Fillip Forsberg. The Hurricanes have made the playoffs once since their Stanley Cup win in 2006 and curiously only 5 times in his 20 year tenure. He has recently announced that he will resign as the Hurricanes GM at the end of the season and in all likelihood will continue as their team President.
The reason for me posting this is that clearly it has become time to make a decision towards the future of David Poile with this organization. He has this team in the bottom of the NHL in all regards and there is no sign that that will change dramatically in the near future. The only reason to keep him would be so that he could guide this team through a rebuild though he would be in his mid 60's when that plan comes to fruition.
So what do we do, while our team meanders amongst the dregs of the NHL and the future is more "potential" than "positive".
