Speaking the Unspeakable

I have asserted in several posts that we are 2 offensive players away from competing for the Central Division title. I have also asserted that I would not trade our captain to get there. Instead I would attempt to move perhaps the nicest and most talented player on the team. That is right, I would move Pekka. Here is the trade I believe could get done. We trade Pekka and MDZ to Edmonton for Eberle and Victor Fasth. Assuming MDZ gets a slight increase as an RFA we save $1.1mm, we then add this money to the space we have to make a major play for Statsny, including the chance to be on a line with Eberle. If this gets done we have the following down the middle: Statsny, Jarnkrok, Fisher, and Goose. That looks to me like a true 1st through 4th line center list. It means moving Cullen to a wing full time, probably on the 3rd line, and Willy back to wing, probably on the 2nd line. This hurts a little because I do like him better at Center, and I would move him if we could get value back. We would have a young defense, but all pairings would have an offensive threat (or two) on it. We have Fasth and Hutton in net, with the kids getting another year in Milwaukee. I love Pekka, but we need to move talent to get it, and let's face it Fasth at $2.9mm is much better value than Peks at $7.0mm.
