Calle Jarnkrok Season Review: The Iron Born

Ronald Martinez

When David Legwand was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in the waning moments of the deadline, an invaluable prospect landed in the Predators lap and showed up on the scoreboard.

Season Summary:

Not much was known about Calle Jarnkrok when he was shipped to Nashville along with Patrick Eaves and a conditional third round pick (which became a second rounder when Detroit made the playoffs) for David Legwand. He was the new, shiny object and without much expectation, the Predators used him in the Milwaukee Admirals farm club for a few games. Those few games saw a breakout performance where he immediately built chemistry with fellow Swede Filip Forsberg. In only six games with the Ads, Jarnkrok earned nine points (five goals, four assists). This offensive outpouring was his ticket to the big show where Jarnkrok drew within one game of tying the Predators' rookie point streak record set by Marek Zidlicky.

Highlight Moment:

Craig Smith made a great defensive play to keep the puck in the zone and Jarnkrok plays the cleaner in a smooth as silk goal top-shelf just nine seconds after Colin Wilson made it 2-0 against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Road Ahead:

Calle Jarnkrok's talent and offensive push is the perfect compliment to what new coach Peter Laviolette will bring to the Nashville Predators. Jarnkrok has developed faster than some of the other Predator prospects and it is likely that he will make the Predators roster on opening night. The hope is that Filip Forsberg, Taylor Beck or Austin Watson can develop similarly and start to bring their offensive acumen to a goal-starved Nashville squad. Even in a small sample size, Jarnkrok didn't disappoint in the AHL or the NHL, but with the time constraint, the grade from the OTF staff was "Incomplete". If you seek a little more confirmation in Jarnkrok's talent, look no further than the Player Usage Chart.
