Predators Game Day Preview: Phoenix vs. Nashville

Complete Coverage >

Part of the new routine here at OTF is the institution of game-day previews, game threads, and recaps after each Predators game. The exact format will be a work in progress, so please feel free to let me know what you think might make for a good addition here, and be sure to drop by and comment during the game. I think you'll find that the comments feature of the SB Nation blogs is far superior to those found elsewhere. You don't actually have to refresh the page to see new responses, they'll pop in dynamically.

Our opposition tonight is represented by Five For Howling, so I think we can expect a little howling in here later on.

As for game coverage, there's no local TV tonight in Nashville, it's radio only with Pete & Terry on 104.5 "The Zone".

Some pre-game notes to chew on:

1. Larry Wigge over at has a feature piece on Pekka Rinne, the flopping Finnish phenom (how's that for alliteration?) that has taken over the Nashville goaltending job. Did you know that Rinne got stomped by three thugs in Finland after a friend's bachelor party? I know I didn't...

2. In the Tennessean's notes, it appears likely that Ryan Jones will indeed dress tonight in place of Ville Koistinen; as those of you know who regularly read this blog, I'm a big fan of Jones' ability to create power play opportunities for the Preds, and his assertive instincts with the puck might play a key role tonight.

3. Another pre-deadline trade has been made, with Pittsburgh sending offensive defenseman Ryan Whitney to Anaheim in exchange for Chris Kunitz and Eric Tangradi. Pensburgh has all the details, and be sure to keep an eye on the SB Nation Trade Deadline Hub for all the latest analysis related to this silly season of wheeling & dealing.

Despite the differing directions the two teams have headed in since the All-Star break, this isn't an opponent the Predators can afford to take lightly. In terms of overall record and cumulative Goals For & Against, these are actually two evenly matched teams. For the Preds, the hope is that a hot goalie and a "just enough" offense can get the job done.

I'll be up in 307 tonight (with all 3 of the Little Forecheckers), so let's have fun tonight, and I'll either see you here in the comments, or down at the rink!

P.S.: If you are coming to the game, bring your camera and submit a picture or two of your game-night experience as a FanShot, or provide your own recap as a FanPost (like Smashville's wallpapers you see in the right sidebar); there's opportunity for all of you to participate here, and the best submissions will get featured on the front page.
