Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins, who won their 3rd Stanley Cup championship in a thrilling 2-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Maxime Talbot was the big hero tonight, scoring the first two goals of the game for Pittsburgh and giving them a 2-0 lead that they carried into the 3rd period. Jonathan Ericsson scored to bring Detroit back to within 2-1, but despite constant pressure late, they couldn't manage the tying goal. In net, Marc-Andre Fleury had one of his better games of the series.
The Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP went to Evgeni Malkin, based on his 14 goal, 22 assist performance in the Pens' run, one of the very best in the last 20 years. His total of 36 is the most points since Wayne Gretzky had 40 in 1993. Sidney Crosby became, at 21, the youngest captain in the history of the NHL to hoist the Stanley Cup.
