An unusual transaction has come across the wire from the Milwaukee Admirals:
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has reassigned forward Peter Olvecky from the Milwaukee Admirals to the Manitoba Moose and that forward Marty Murray has been loaned from the Moose to the Admirals.
So... it's kind of like an AHL-level trade, except Olvecky's rights are still retained by the Predators. Eric Kent at Admirals Short Shifts was pleasantly surprised by the move:
It's an interesting acquisition, since the Ads don't exactly have a lack of centers on the roster. Nick Spaling is already playing out of position at wing - and if Colin Wilson gets sent down, that will be yet another center to join Murray, Spaling, Mike Santorelli, Ben Guite, Wacey Rabbit, and Dave Scatchard.
We've been loud critics of Olvecky this season, but we're still a little surprised the trigger was actually pulled.
Olvecky was signed to a one-year contract by the Preds last summer.
