In a surprising move, the Nashville Predators have placed center Nick Spaling on Injured Reserve, ahead of tonight's game at Chicago. The expectation was that Mike Fisher would be the one heading to IR, following the hit he took from Anaheim's Francois Beauchemin Saturday night.
Fisher didn't travel with the team, and Josh Cooper has already reported that Sergei Kostitsyn has ruled himself out, as well. Cooper also states that the Preds have officially called up Ryan Thang to bring the team back up to 23 men on the Active Roster:
According to Nashville Coach Barry Trotz, Spaling was hurt in Nashville's game against the Anaheim Ducks. Trotz said the issue happened midway through the contest. Spaling played just four shifts in the third period against the Ducks.
The slight bright spot for the Predators did involve Fisher. Trotz said Fisher worked out yesterday. Trotz also sounded optimistic when asked if Fisher could make Nashville's upcoming four-game West Coast swing.
Going on IR means that Spaling has to miss at least 7 days, so count him out for the rest of this week's games.
