Dear Doug,

My momma always taught me that when someone gives you a gift, you write them a thank you note. And so, here I am, albeit somewhat late.

You see, DW, you gave up on Marcel Goc as a Shark, perhaps before you should've. David Poile, of course, saw a golden opportunity - a young and talented forward available on the cheap? Sign him up.

Turns out, Mr. Wilson, that you did indeed give up too soon. In well under two full seasons, Goc has exceeded his career-high in points twice, playing in all situations and on all lines for Barry Trotz. In addition to being one of the best bottom six forwards in the NHL value-wise, he's spawned hashtags and provided endless puns to those in need of a good joke.

He's an Olympian. He's inexpensive. He's got a cool last name, and he's good at hockey. So here's to you, Doug - you might even say we Goc ya.

Thankfully,

Chris
