Western Conference playoff watch - March 4 Edition

Happy Exolauno Day, as my Classical Greek professor used to joke***. As the Nashville Predators hope to complete the long march to the playoffs, we have to keep an eye on the other teams jostling for position. While you're waiting for these games to start, make your point to call into 104.5 The Zone between 6:00-7:00 p.m. tonight, as they're devoting the hour to hockey talk, and they want your phone calls (737-1045). One thing I've heard from lots of sports radio folks around town is that calls drive their conversation, so if you want to hear more Preds talk, make it your job to help get it started!

Carolina Hurricanes vs Chicago Blackhawks (7:30 p.m. Central)
The Blackhawks are kicking it into high gear, riding a 6-game winning streak heading into this one. Carolina needs this one to stay ahead of some hard-charging teams pushing them in the East, but they're not particularly good on the road (13-15-6).

Columbus Blue Jackets vs Calgary Flames (8:00 p.m. Central)
The Flames have been on fire since January 14 (15-4-4), and are tied with the Predators at 75 points. Do we pull for the Blue Jackets, who have fallen a bit behind the pack by losing 3 straight?

Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks (9:00 p.m. Central)
Another "please finish in regulation" match, the Stars and Ducks are both on the outside looking in to the playoff party, but have games in hand on Nashville. It sounds like Brad Richards might still be on the shelf for Dallas, but they've still managed to pot 10 goals over the last 3 games. For comparison, it's taken Nashville their last 7 to score that many.

***Lots of ancient Greek texts are about wars, and when a force would "march forth" from one city to go attack another, the verb used was "exolauno" (roughly transliterated). March forth, March 4th... get it? My twins thought it was lame, too, and they turn 9 years old today. Happy Birthday, H&H.
