Wednesday's Notes: Red Wings force Game 7, off-ice stories abound

New, comments

The Stanley Cup Playoffs took another surprising turn last night with the Detroit Red Wings forcing a seventh game against San Jose, but the big news this morning surrounds the business side of the game. While Phoenix Coyotes fans appear assured of at least one more season of hockey, there's speculation about a major development on Long Island, and complaints of huge financial losses in Columbus.

A $25 Million Hit (Puck-Rakers Blog)
A source complains that the Blue Jackets will lose $25 million this season. Declining attendance and failing to hit revenue sharing targets is surely a part of that, but I've never understood why this team spends above the mid-point of the cap range. Their business model obviously doesn't support it, and they lose out on one portion of revenue sharing as a result.
