Predators players never wavered despite questions over qualifying offers - Nashville City Paper
Nobody will admit that this summer episode was a serious issue, but considering the way all these guys signed contracts in the hours leading up to the NHLPA grievance hearing, it's hard to see it that way.

Also, Barry Trotz joined NHL Live yesterday to give them an update on how training camp's going:

Video: Jody Shelley's suspension worthy hit on Darryl Boyce - Broad Street Hockey
Jody Shelley's in mid-season form, with a nasty boarding that even our Flyers blog says was "absolutely disgusting". This will prove a test case for Brendan Shanahan in his new role as the NHL's dean of discipline.

Keep fourth line on the bench - The Globe and Mail
I'm not buying what Roy MacGregor is selling here, that 4th lines around the league are simply stocked with goons and that if roster sizes are reduced, fighting would drop to nothing. Teams will always look for a physical edge in hockey, period.

The Truth Factory |
Tyler's like a dog with a bone, and won't let go of a throwaway diversion in the profile of Stu Grimson that was linked here a few days ago. He makes a compelling case to take down the notion of Western Canada as an "enforcer factory", but I don't see it as a particularly egregious error.
