Around the NHL

The war over the NHL’s salary cap floor - Puck Daddy
Greg's one of my absolute favorite hockey bloggers, but it would have been instructive to review how revenue sharing actually works in the NHL here. The problem that some teams have with the floor is because they fail to hit performance targets, and then don't receive their full share from the league (by not growing their own revenues by enough, or not selling enough tickets). It's the fact that when teams get in a down cycle, they lose a good chunk of support that's the real problem. As long as a small market team performs well (like Nashville), the system does actually handle the disparity between large- and small-market teams. But some of the quotes he pulls from various articles are from writers who are ill-informed and merely interested in advocating a position.
