NHL writer: Ryan Suter says he's out for Thursday vs. Columbus

A couple of interesting tweets just came from the account of Dan Rosen, a senior writer at NHL.com:

Some of the Predators visited the NHL offices today. Ryan Suter was one of them. He said he won't play tomorrow night vs. Columbus. Suter said he hadn't even told Barry Trotz yet, and he wouldn't elaborate on the nature of the injury other than to say, "It's not my head."

On 102.5 The Game's "1st Quarter" show this morning, Trotz said that Suter was questionable for tomorrow's game (that's what I remember hearing, if anyone else heard otherwise feel free to correct me), so the fact that he's not playing tomorrow isn't shocking. What is odd, however, is that Suter is giving this information to an NHL.com writer without even talking to his coach first.

So what's going on here? Does anyone else find it unusual that Suter would break something like this to a writer before talking to his head coach?
