Saturday's Dump & Chase: Don't Always Copy the NFL

The NHL can learn a lot from the NFL when it comes to growing a brand, player safety, etc. But what about player conduct? The last month has been a rocky one for NFL players, with the Ray Rice indefinite suspension, Adrian Peterson indicted for child endangerment, and Josh Gordon suspended for a full season over repeated drug use. So what does this mean for the NHL? Nothing on the scale of the Ray Rice disaster has happened in the NHL, but as Allan Muir points out in his piece from , the NHL looked out of sync with public opinion in handling Semyon Varlamov last year. There hasn't been an incident yet, but with the PR backlash from a brutally mismanaged Ray Rice situation, can the growth focused, modern NHL afford a similar incident? Take a look at the Allan Muir article, and also don’t forget, ROOKIE TOURNAMENT STARTS TODAY! Florida vs. Boston, new Ford Ice Center, 1 p.m, can’t wait. Happy weekend everyone!
