Nashville Predators @ Buffalo Sabres Preview: Rebounding In Buffalo

New, comments

The Predators were able to get out of Philly with a point, but they look to get back to winning ways with a visit to Buffalo.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

It has been a rough week for the Preds as they are coming off yet another loss, and playing sloppy in the last two games. Timing and scheduling is everything though, and with that comes a trip to the last place Sabres.

Let's not waste anytime and get right into this preview.

The Buffalo Sabres

There isn't much to say about the Sabres this year. They are at the bottom of the league in almost every statistical category. And most importantly, they are last place in points (by 6 to be exact). They have been talked about in the national media, but not for anything good. Mainly because of how bad they have been this year. They did, however, pull off a blockbuster trade when they acquired Evander Kane from the Winnipeg Jets. Buffalo is still waiting for his debut though.

There is one bright spot to the Sabres' season though. And that is Tyler Ennis. He has been solid for Buffalo all year. He leads the team in goals, assists, and points (14G, 18A, and 32P). But at the end of the day, he can't do it himself. That is why the debut of Kane is so critical for the Sabres. The season is already lost for them, but getting some chemistry between Ennis and Kane will be key for their play next year.

Buffalo's offensive output has been abysmal. They have only scored 109 goals (that's 20 goals less than the next closest team). Their defense has been equally as bad, if not worse. They have allowed 200 goals (which is second worst in the league). Who know, maybe if they can get the offense going, the defense will pick up their play as well. Needless to say, there is a lot that needs to be changed in Buffalo.

The Nashville Predators

This is going to be a quick one everyone. You can pretty much get the gist of how the Preds have been doing from yesterday's preview. They have now lost two in a row now (getting a point out of the game yesterday). The addition of Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli seems like it will take a couple of games to build the chemistry that is already there with the other players on the team.

As I mentioned earlier though, there is nothing better than seeing Buffalo on the schedule when you are currently in a slight slump (and yes, I realize that I probably put my foot in my mouth by saying that). The Predators are continuing to get serious production from Craig Smith and Colin Wilson. They both notched a goal in yesterday's game and Wilson is one goal away from being a twenty goal scorer for the first time in his career. Let's just hope that these guys can continue their hot streak tonight.

Reasons To Watch

  • Colin Wilson trying to get twenty goals this season.
  • Craig Smith just doing Craig Smith things.
  • Mike Ribeiro just making plays happen.
