Shea Weber out for remainder of first round series

New, comments

The Predators confirmed the Captain won't be returning just yet.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Nashville Predators announced on Friday afternoon that captain Shea Weber will not return to the first round series against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Weber has been sidelined since colliding with Brandon Saad in the corner in Game 2.

It's a huge loss for the Predators, who are facing elimination in Game 6 at the United Center. However, Roman Josi, Seth Jones, Mattias Ekholm and Ryan Ellis have all stepped up to fill the void left by the Captain. He isn't replaceable, but Nashville's depth is certainly a plus. Even though they've lost two of the three games he's missed so far, one of those losses was in triple overtime. Hardly something to scoff at.

The Predators know what it's like to play without Weber now, and they'll have to continue to do so as they try to even the series on Saturday.

Due to injury, Shea Weber will miss the remainder of the #Predshttps://twitter.com/hashtag/Preds?src=hash">#Preds> & #Blackhawkshttps://twitter.com/hashtag/Blackhawks?src=hash">#Blackhawks> series. From the Predators:

The Nashville Predators announced Friday that Captain Shea Weber will miss the remainder of the club’s Western Conference Quarterfinal series against the Chicago Blackhawks due to a lower-body injury the defenseman suffered in Game Two of the series. However, contrary to erroneous broadcast and media reports over the last 24 hours, he did not suffer an ACL injury. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

The Predators face the Blackhawks in Game Six on Saturday from the United Center in Chicago (7 p.m. CT, NBC). Chicago leads the best-of-seven series three games to two.
