Saturday's Dump & Chase: Media Day Means Hockey is Sort-Of-Not-Really Back

New, comments

Media Day of training camp signals the genisis of the NHL season. While the day itself is pretty unimportant and uninteresting, it's the first day all the local media, players, coaches, and executives are in the same place talking about the same thing: the 2015-2016 NHL season and their hopes surrounding it's looming start. Once the excitement of hockey's pseudo return sinks in there is the realization nothing really happened yesterday. Unless you're Max Pacioretty or Josh Ho-Sang.

Predators' Seth Jones prepared for next step | The Tennessean
I'm very excited to watch Jones this year. My gut tells he will have a breakout season and, even though that means the opposite will happen, I'm clinging to blind hope like the fool I am.

Nashville Sign Trevor Murphy to Entry Level Deal | Admirals Roundtable
"Thinking about this as a long term project, as this is a three-year entry level contract, it is also a smart move."

NHL training camp notes: Maple Leafs in spotlight, trade rumors | SI.com
There is a small bit talking about the Predators being a potential destination for Staal if he becomes trade bait. He definitely wouldn't be the storied "final piece." A 31-year-old center isn't exactly a shiney new upgrade on a 34-year-old center but he would provide much needed depth down the middle.

Benning's moves don't match his declared direction, and that's okay | CanucksArmy
"We do our best on this site to be analytical in our thoughts, and we try to judge the processes rather than the result itself. So when Jim Benning states that he wants to "retool on the fly", we're going to take that at face value and assess his choices in that context. If he stated he was opting for a full-on, tank-centred rebuild, we'd probably be bigger fans of the process so far."

Islanders return Ho-Sang to Niagara after late camp arrival | Lighthouse Hockey
Stone cold move by the Isles. It feels like there is a little more to the story that we'll likely never know. Sure does put a damper on the ending of this great article too.

Good article about a signaling of a change in the Devil's thinking. Now they just need to get rid of that horrendous Zajac contract.

Quebec/Vegas really have a chance to be good in the future. That's if Carolina doesn't move there first.
