Tuesday's Dump & Chase: Back to the salt mine

New, comments

Somehow, we have to carry on. We have to watch actual hockey games, and talk about them. While we'll never forget the joy of All-Star Weekend and John Scott (a future TV analyst for Sportsnet, TSN, or hopefully Fox Sports Tennessee), we have a playoff picture to watch. Go beat St. Louis, please.

Bettman’s reign equal parts incredible savvy and mind-boggling good luck | The Hockey News
I can just see the dust flying off the keyboard. But he's right- Gary's reign has been bizarre. Some of what's wrong with this league is just the sport and some growing pains. While the other leagues in the realm of modern sports have been more established (NFL, NBA, MLB), the NHL was much more regional to start the 90s. The NHL is gaining ground on the MLB, but the NFL is lapping the field and we're all having to hear about it. But yeah, Gary deserves some praise for pulling the league out of the ditch (after parking it there before pulling it out of said ditch shortly before parking it in the ditch).
