We are a day ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights swooping in and stealing a player off of every NHL team. In case you need a refresher on how all this works, check out this Expansion Draft explainer video:

The 2017 NHL Expansion Draft, explained

Still wondering how the NHL Expansion Draft will work? Let us explain.

Posted by SB Nation NHL on Thursday, June 1, 2017

Ok!

So since we have one whole day left, let’s mock this draft. For this I used SB Nation’s nifty mock draft tool, which you should totally go play around with.

I selected the goalies first, then the defensemen, then the forwards. Building the team from the back-end out helped guide the general structure of the team, but there’s hardly one way to draft this team. There are so many options and countless final rosters to build towards.

Who will be your 1C? Who is on your top pairing on defense? Who is in goal? Who is your go-to goal scorer? Who’s your defensive wizard?

Here’s how I did:

Anaheim Ducks: Sami Vatanen, D

Boston Bruins: Colin Miller, D

Calgary Flames: Matt Stajan, C

Chicago Blackhawks: Trevor Van Riemsdyk, D

Columbus Blue Jackets: Joonas Korpisalo, G

Detroit Red Wings: Petr Mrazek, G

Florida Panthers: Reilly Smith, RW

Minnesota Wild: Matt Dumba, D

Nashville Predators: James Neal, LW

New York Islanders: Ryan Strome, C

Ottawa Senators: Clarke MacArthur, LW

Pittsburgh Penguins: Marc-Andre Fleury, G

St. Louis Blues: Jori Lehtera, C

Toronto Maple Leafs: Martin Marincin, D

Washington Capitals: Nate Schmidt, D

Arizona Coyotes: Teemu Pulkkinen, LW

Buffalo Sabres: William Carrier, LW

Carolina Hurricanes: Joakim Nordstrom, LW

Colorado Avalanche: Carl Soderberg, C

Dallas Stars: Patrik Nemeth, D

Edmonton Oilers: Jujhar Khaira, LW

Los Angeles Kings: Brayden McNabb, D

Montreal Canadiens: Jacob De La Rose, LW

New Jersey Devils: Jon Merrill, D

New York Rangers: Kevin Klein, D

Philadelphia Flyers: Michael Raffl, LW

San Jose Sharks: Mikkel Boedker, LW

Tampa Bay Lightning: Slater Koekkoek, D

Vancouver Canucks: Brendan Gaunce, C

Winnipeg Jets: Marko Dano, C

This mock draft fulfills all the required components, including the number of forwards (16), number of defensemen (11), number of goaltenders (3) and number of players under contract for 2017-18 (24). The cap runs to $66.5 million, $8 million clear of the estimated cap for next year.

Finally, here is my attempt to fill out Vegas’ opening day lineup, given this draft:

Forwards

James Neal - Ryan Strome - Reilly Smith

Mikkel Boedker - Jori Lehtera - Clarke MacArthur

Michael Raffl - Matt Stajan - Jacob De La Rose

Joakim Nordstrom - Carl Soderberg - William Carrier

Defense

Colin Miller - Kevin Klein

Brayden McNabb - Trevor Van Riemsdyk
