The Predators take a quick trip to New Jersey before returning home for a two game homestand.
The Predators dropped their contest Tuesday to the Sharks after San Jose was able to score two quick goals late in the third period. The Predators were unable to counter the momentum from the Sharks and found themselves without two points at the end of the evening.
We saw Miikka Salomaki back in the lineup and Frederick Gaudreau scratched. Dan Hamhuis played less than half of the game, so we might see Anthony Bitetto or Matt Irwin in the lineup tonight against the Devils.
The JoFA line had an incredible night against San Jose, but Craig Smith was the only Predator outside the top line to contribute. The second and third lines absolutely have to step up and add some points. Calle Jarnkrok and Colton Sissons seemed to trade places on the third and fourth lines…there might be some shuffling on the lower two lines.
Expect Juuse Saros in net once again. He played a solid game against San Jose, but I’m sure he wants those 3 goals from the third period back. Over 5 games, Saros has a .919 Sv% and the San Jose game was his first loss of the season. Young Saros does not seem to be worried about starting multiple games in Rinne’s absence.
New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils are 4-2-0 over just 6 games this season.
The Devils are skating a very familiar lineup. They added defenseman Eric Gryba to their blue line, but they look very similar to the 2017-2018 Devils. It seems like the Devils have penalty woes, similar to the Predators. The Predators can capitalize on an undisciplined New Jersey team tonight.
Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri lead the Devils in points. Palmieri has 7 goals (!!!) and Hall has one goal and 7 assists. Brian Boyle has three goals on the season, and rookie Nico Hischier has one goal.
Defenseman Steven Santini suffered a broken jaw against Philadelphia last weekend. Egor Yakovlev was recalled from Binghamton to replace him.
Keith Kinkaid and Eddie Lack are holding down the crease for New Jersey. Corey Schneider remains injured. Kinkaid has a .929 Sv% in all 6 Devils games.
Memories and Feelings
-I don’t have any particular feelings about the New Jersey Devils, but I do feel a bit excited about a 6:00 puck drop. Am I old?
Reasons to Watch
-The Devils are a team we only see twice a year. Will the Predators bring the same fire they had on their Alberta road trip tonight?
-I’m positive the Predators will want to get back in the win column after Tuesday.
