On his 36th birthday, the Nashville Predators signed goaltender Pekka Rinne to a two year, $10 million dollar contract.
The contract pays Rinne $6 million in 2019-2020 and $4 million in 2020-2021. Rinne signed his current contract on his 29th birthday. The new deal ensures that the big Finn remains with the Predators until 2021. He will be 38 when his next contract expires.

With Rinne on Injured Reserve, backup Juuse Saros played admirably for the team he will eventually lead in Rinne’s place. For now, the net is still Rinne’s. Saros signed a 3 year, $4.5 million contract in July.
Here’s some instant analysis from the team. Twitter is exploding with congratulations for the birthday boy. Players and coaches alike speak nothing but praise for him. He is the longest-tenured player in gold. A leader on and off the ice, #35 will most certainly be one of the first Predators jerseys retired.
Happy 36th birthday, Pekka Rinne!
