Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: Pups!

We are approaching dreaded August when articles about hockey slow to a trickle. But fortunately, D&D are back to get us through this week.

Smashville News:

Nashville Predators sign Miikka Salomaki to two-year contract |
I saw a lot of folks unhappy about this on the internet. As it's only slightly above his qualifying offer, the only surprise could be the term. Decent depth signing IMO. (Someone has to be around to handle Corey Perry.)

Nashville Predators’ Top 25 Under 25: #23 Rem Pitlick | On the Forecheck
Eric takes a look at one of the two best Predators' prospects name-wise (the other being Mismash.) These articles make me wish I still lived in Franklin so I could see some of these guys play at camps.

Okay check out the last two pictures of Doug, then Dozer. A dog’s life, eh? Also, Doug is looking a little grey around the eyebrows.

Central Division News:

Kane eager to get Blackhawks back into playoffs |
"Patrick Kane is using the adversity the Chicago Blackhawks went through in missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in a decade as motivation to prepare for this season." I think that they just changed a few words from the Jonathon Toews article last year. Seriously though, Patrick Kane is not the problem with the Blackhawks (see next).

NHL Network analyst: Long road ahead for Blackhawks goalie Crawford | Daily Herald
This article is not as confident as the reports coming out of the convention. It could be that Corey Crawford will not be able to return to the ice (let alone his previous form) any time soon. That's a real issue because Cam Ward is not going to get them back into the playoffs in this year's Central Division.

The Hockey News has Jake Allen rebounding this season. Will he? | St. Louis Game Time
“Will the Blues starter have a bounceback year with a new roster?” Probably to start, but can he get over his mid-year blues (see what I did there?) Check out the charts - it's freaky. Maybe start looking into curing voodoo curses?

Sens' Tkachuk to make NHL decision soon | TSN
He has to go back to school right? Dante Fabbro is getting the whole gang back together.

NHL among organizations short listed for 2018 Beyond Sport Global Awards |
The conservation efforts have been getting better and better. I'm not sure the Declaration of Principles should win an award until how they have been implemented and followed is evaluated. Good press for the league here though.

PHT Power Rankings: The NHL’s worst alternate jerseys |
”Some third jerseys look good. Some do not. This is about the ones that do not.” Unfortunately the mustard yellow jersey makes an appearance here. I never cared for them - were they a third? I often feel with all the “GOLD” branding, we will never get another third.

Reaves believes Golden Knights can 'make another run,' win Stanley Cup |
Oh Ryan, it's just not that easy bucko.

8 Best Defence Pairings in the NHL: 2017-18 Edition | The Hockey Writers
The Good - both Josi/Ellis and Subban/Ekholm are on the list and the writer acknowledges we are so stacked Josi/Ekholm could have made it also. The Bad - the pairings are 3 and 5 respectively (what?). Apparently Jones/Werenski win because they are so good for their age. ?????

How is this guy not a Nashville Predators fan? I seem to remember a photo of our Ryan Ellis giving him a jersey. Get it back!

Play nice out there!
