Nashville Predators vs. Philadelphia Flyers Preview: A New Year, A New Streak

New, comments

Can the Preds make a new win streak to begin 2019?

NHL: Nashville Predators at Philadelphia Flyers Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

After an incredible showing for their moms, can the Predators continue their winning ways in 2019? The Predators look to settle the score against the Flyers tonight.

Nashville Predators

The Preds stunned the Capitals yesterday afternoon 6-3. Goals from Ryan Johansen, Frederick Gaudreau, Viktor Arvidsson, Ryan Ellis, Miikka Salomaki, and Rocco Grimaldi sealed the victory for the boys in Washington. The on-ice celebrations were great, but the mom celebrations were even better!!!

It was excellent to see Arvidsson get back on the scoresheet. Pekka Rinne picked up his 15th win of the season.

With today’s game being the second half of a back-to-back, I’d expect Juuse Saros to grab the start for Nashville. Forward Nicholas Baptiste was recalled from the Milwaukee Admirals on Monday but did not dress for the Predators. Kyle Turris remains day-to-day with a lower body injury and Colton Sissons, Filip Forsberg, and Yannick Weber remain on injured reserve.

Matt Irwin was scratched in favor of Anthony Bitetto against Washington. With very little turnaround, the coaching staff might elect to skate the same lineup against Philadelphia tonight.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers lost yesterday to the Carolina Hurricanes. They have also strung together some losses to the Florida Panthers and an OT loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Their road trip doesn’t get too much easier facing Nashville in what’s sure to be a giant party of a game tonight.

Claude Giroux leads his team in points with 44 (13 goals, 31 assists). Jakub Voracek has 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists), and Sean Couturier has 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists). Shayne Gostisbehere leads Philadelphia defenders with 16 points (5 goals, 11 assists).

Rookie goalie Carter Hart has played in 5 NHL contests now. He only allowed one goal against Nashville before Christmas. Hart is the likely starter tonight since he was pulled yesterday against Carolina. He has a .899 Sv% over his 5 games. Michal Neuvirth will back up Hart.

Memories and Feelings

  • A better showing than the boys had in Philadelphia before Christmas, please!
  • Starting 2019 off on a good note? Sounds like a good plan to me.

Reasons to Watch

  • Forget about the fact that you have to go back to work soon with a Preds game at Bridgestone!!!!
