Will the Predators be able to repeat their incredible efforts from Tuesday? Tonight’s game is the first of a back-to-back.
Juuse Saros and Pekka Rinne have both turned in excellent starts in each of their last games.
It feels like P.K. Subban is overdue for some goals, too.
Newcomer Phillip Di Giuseppe practiced with the team on Thursday, but there’s no word on when he will enter the lineup. Colton Sissons appears close to a return after practicing in a regular jersey. Yannick Weber and Filip Forsberg practiced Thursday in non-contact jerseys.
Kyle Turris was not at Thursday’s practice and probably isn’t on the road trip.
Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings are 15-20-7 at the midway point of the season. They lost to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday evening. They’re in a rebuilding status but can boast some solid prospects in Filip Zadina and Joe Veleno. We only have to wait a few more weeks to see if Detroit will sell off some players for assets/picks at the trade deadline.
Anthony Mantha will return to the lineup tonight after missing several games due to a hand injury. Mantha has 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 27 games. The Wings are led by Dylan Larkin with 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) and Gustav Nyquist with 34 (10 goals, 24 assists). Mike Green leads Detroit defenders in points with 16 (3 goals, 13 assists).
The Red Wings picked up backup goaltender Jonathan Bernier in the offseason. He’s played 18 games and has a .892 Sv%. Starting netminder Jimmy Howard has a .918 Sv% in 27 games.
Memories and Feelings
- Ideally, it’s not going to be Preds-Wings fight night. I’d like to see Kevin Fiala and Viktor Arvidsson continue to make an impact as the Preds slowly work their injured guys back in the lineup.
- It was great to see Colton Sissons in a regular practice sweater on Thursday! Will he get back in the lineup tonight?
- Pavel Datsyuk is no longer with the Wings to deke around all of the Predators for a goal:
(Side note: the on-ice players in this clip are Kevin Klein, Martin Erat, David Legwand, Colin Wilson, and Jonathan Blum. It’s been a LONG time.)
Reasons to Watch
I know it’s going to be hard to choose between tonight’s game and the World Juniors, but I’m pretty excited to see the Predators settle back down after the injury roller coaster.
